She burned my scalp

Saturday morning I went to get a touch up. I always go there to get my hair done. Well on this day there was no hot water and they failed to notify their clients that they will be having their heads washed with cold water(I had no idea) she proceeded to relax my hair and while applying the relaxer she is constantly working the relaxer through my hair. So we get to the sink bowl and then she notifies me that there is no hot water and I will be washed in cold water.
Why the hell did she still charge me $40.00 and acted as if nothing was wrong. I would really like to find another salon because I finally came to the conclusion that these people don't know what they're doing. Another thing is I don't know what kind of relaxer they're using on my hair. I have tried to ask and they act like they don't understand me. I also asked another customer who was getting her hair relaxed and she said she normally uses Affirm but they just grab from one big bucket and use the same thing on everyones hair. How can I find out what they use so i can take my behind somewhere else. Wen I first went there i told them that I was use Motions and hoped they also used that relaxer. I have been going to them for a year to get my relaxer and it's time for a change when they start burning your hair, and rinses only last after one wash "See you later mamasita"

Atmo, I'm sorry your scalp was burned. I hope it's okay now and that you find a great stylist who cares about treating your hair and scalp well.

renee, thanks do you think she rinsed my hair real good because the water was cold? Anyway, I will be getting a rinse Friday at a salon in Harlem and hopefully that will come out good.

What is the difference between rinsing relaxer with cold versus hot water? I thought a rinse is a rinse as long as you get everything out.

Yet another relaxer that went bad.

Sorry for your troubles atmo. With stories like these...I am moving closer and closer to stop relaxing all together.

jancan, I know yesterday I noticed my hair is thinning in the middle. I am going to pick up Surge Power wash Shampoo.
I have no idea why my hair is thinning in the middle other than I just had a baby 5 months ago. Since I had my daughter I stopped taking my vitamins. I will goto GNC and buy some this week.My head still feels very sore in the thinning area also can I use the temple balm for the middle of my hair. I am so depressed because the rest of my hair is nice and full. What should I do?

Re: Well actually...

...as long as she used the neutralizer shampoo on you, cold water really should be no problem. bcuz i would burn if you even looked at me with the relaxer, i would insist that the hairdresser rinse me with cold water to reduce the burn factor, and i remember no problems. my hairdresser always said cold water made her work harder. so the cold water actually should not be a factor if the stylist was thorough in her rinse and used the neutralizer shampoo.

however, i would DEFINITELY drop them for the other reasons you mentioned, i.e., dishonesty, evasiveness, etc. it's YOUR money and they are there to properly service YOUR vision for your hair.

also i would get some aloe vera gel or juice -- the unprocessed, natural kind in the dark bottle straight from the plant. you can get it at the health food store. and treat your scalp with that (ideal for a slicked back bun style) and it should be fine. best wishes! hth!

Aloe Vera Gel

well since it's unprocessed and straight from the plant, the gel is a thicker liquid and the juice is a straight liquid. If you get the juice, you can probably put it in a spray bottle and spray it on. if you get the gel, just apply it on your hair, concentrating on your scalp like any other hair treatment. i would mix it with olive oil. since it's totally organic and natural, it should be no problem. because it is a gel it will dry hard, which is why i suggest mixing it with oil. btw, you have to store it in the fridge.

i'm not sure about it helping thickness, but it will definitely help heal your scalp from the burns and keep your scalp in health, which of course will contribute to thickness. i have read that mexican women use it widely for overall hair health, but when i use it, it always gives good results. hth! let me know if you need to know anything else.

edited to say: maybe try surge to encourage the thin areas and mix the aloe vera juice with it! i'm a kitchen chemist so don't mind me!

Re: Aloe Vera Gel

Thanks Nissi, so mix The Aloe Vera Liquid with the Surge Revitalizer or Motion Lotion.
I have not tried any mixtures of any kind yet, so I want to make sure I do it right and get my hair back on the right track.

What salon did you go to? Cause I have gone to this dominican salon near 110th and 2nd ave. It's called Lindy's and it seems like they NEVER have hot water. It pisses me off. AND they burned my scalp too.

Re: Aloe Vera Gel

No problem, don't forget that scalp massages are good too! (or hanging your head over the side of the bed!

) Anything that encourages blood flow to the hair follicle encourages growth.

Don't worry about it, stress causes thinning too! Once you get back on your vits, it should be fine...best wishes!

Wolftrap, this one is located in the Bronx. I go to them because the wait is minium( I hate waiting) but I will have to learn to be patient.

Re: Aloe Vera Gel

Thanks Nissi,I will get on those vitamins right away.I'm going to take pictures of my thinning areas and post the results. Do you think it's the relaxer i have no idea what they're using on my hair. I'm afraid to ask because they might think I am going to go somewhere else. Damn right, that just what I'm gonna do.
