Shampoos with no SLS or SLES...

Supergirl

With Love & Silk
Just wanted to start a thread for our present and future reference regarding this--please add yours in. Here are a few:

Nioxin Bionutrient Cleanser 1C (It does have TEA lauryl sulfate, but it is one of the last ingredients)

Design Essentials Moisture Retention Conditioning Shampoo

Aveda Sap Moss Shampoo

Elucence Moisture Benefits Shampoo

Soft Sheen Breakthru, everything by Aubrey Organics and Jason Natural, Salon Selectives Completely Drenched, Cream of Nature (red and green label), DPL Moisturizing Shampoo and the old Lanza Protein Plus.

I make my own shampoo using Dr. Bronners Peppermint.

Here's what I do:

1. I use herbs (just from the grocery store) basil, rosemary, and sage. Place herbs in a clean glass jar with a lid.
2. Boil some spring water and pour over the herbs.
3. Cover and let steep for 10 to 20 minutes.
4. Strain the liquid from the herbs into a bowl.
5. Add the liquid castile soap and almond or olive oil and mix.
6. Add rosemary oil, mix again.
7. Bottle in a plastic container with a spout or a clean recycled shampoo bottle.

I love it! The peppermint and rosemary help my yucky scalp, and my hair feels thicker after using it, then using pre-made shampoo. /images/graemlins/drunk.gif

That's a great recipe, adf23. YOu should out it on the hair recipe board. I bet it smells good, too. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Aubrey Organics, Jason's Naturals and Giovanni are good brands. I am also going to to try Aussie's and Aveda. When can I purchase Aveda products? Do I have to order online or can I purchase them from stores? Thanks.

Kiss My Face- Miss Treated (sic) Shampoo for damaged-treated hair. Available at health food stores-it's aromatherapy in a bottle of shampoo and also contains Clary Sage, Eucalyptus and Rosemary! Also has a rinse out conditioner with Peppermint in it. I recommend that you use the conditioner, the shampoo alone left my hair tangled, but the conditioner made it feel like silk.

Wow! That sounds good.. think I will give it a try.

Forgot to ask. Are these fresh herbs or dry? If dry, how much do you use? I assume fresh is the amount you would get in the store package?? I have the fresh in my garden.

Vevster---I have the Aura Rosemary Mint Shampoo and it has TEA-Lauryl sulfate, cocamide MEA, and cocamidopropyl betaine---I think these are the only lathering agents---no SLS listed--but can't speak for the other shampoos although I don't remember seeing SLS

I have used and still use off and on a shampoo called Hemp Oil & lavendar shampoo by Uncle Harry's Natural Products, which is great but my husband complains that I smell like a bouquet of flowers afterwards. It's similar to the ingredients of one of the homemade shampoo posted by one of the ladies.
Ingredients: Castille soap, apple cider vinegar, hemp, lavendar, rosemary, lemon, tea tree oils, burdock root, neem, nettles, and sage

Can you post the prices of these shampoos? I went to a whole foods market and saw the Aubrey Organics and Jason's Naturals and all of their products were $7.50 to $15.00. Is that the average price for these products?

I paid $8.00 for my Aubrey Island Naturals Island Butter shampoo. I would guess that the organic shampoos are going to be in the $7-15 range in most areas.

Suave shampoos don't have SLS or SLES much to my surprise. I think I might have to give them a shot. Since they're only a dollar, what do I have to lose?

Oh and we must not forget Neutrogena Triple Moisture Shampoo

Suave does have ammonium lauryl sulfate. But so does the beloved KeraCare Hydrating Shampoo. I think CON has ALS, too but since I'm not at home, I can't check the label. Many shampoos that don't have SLS or SLES have ALS.
I heard to avoid SLS & SLES. I hadn't heard to avoid ALS.

Thanks, Supergirl. I know I have another shampoo that has sulfates that aren't SLS or SLES. Maybe it's the Aphogee Deep Moisture.....I'll have to go home and check.

I know the Elasta, Kenra and Elucence poo's have Sodium Myreth Sulfate--which is much milder than SLS or SLES. Those shampoos really moisturize too
