Shampoo Bars

I have bars from cv,ag, kbb, and bobeam, I like the bobeam, waiting for njoi to come.

Darcy's Botanicals Coconut Lavender Milk Cleansing Bar is nice. It smells good and makes my hair feel soft after using it like conditioner.

divachyk I like them because there is no waste. In my household, we put a lot of emphasis on recycling and reusing. For the shampoo bars, the first time I got it it came wrapped in waxy paper. But now I know that I don't have to even to get the next bar wrapped. I can bring my own container. I also like the fact that it's something different. I've never liked shampoo because my hair felt gross after. And I have to use so much to get a decent lather. But I only need to run the bar over my wet hair in maybe four places to get the lather I need.

I use HairVeda shikakai bar and I used to use swastik shikakai bar. I prefer using bars; they clean my hair without leaving it stripped and my hair also feels thicker whilst using them.

I like this or raw African black soap if I am washing out a heavy oil pre-poo. I also use shampoo on pre-oiled hair.

Bobeam Poo-Bars, hands down!
The Honey Oatmeal, Shea Aole and Cheris Poo bar are my favorites.
Pros:
  • No tangling, soft soft hair and clean scalp.
  • Decent price: Usually 5.00
  • Great lather, never stripping
  • ALWAYS, Great Customer service! Laquita will work with you and she's so kind.
Cons: I haven't had one..:yep:

@the bolded: That's what it is for me. My routine doesn't change much, which works well for me. It's just that using a shampoo bar (when I need a moisturizing shampoo) adds a little spice to my routine. I don't have a preference in regards to liquid vs. shampoo bars, though.

I never had problems with dryness but I always imagined bars would be good for scent and scalp exfoliation. Am I wrong? I'm thinking of trying them. I tried CV body bars once - same cleanliness, skin wasn't softer or clearer, and the scents weren't as I imagined - what are the shampoo bars like?

I just used Bobeam's Shampoo bar from her Etsy site and it was great.

I turned away from bars because I hated the ones from Chagrin Valley. The CV bars left a disgusting film/waxy feeling on my hair and one shouldnt have to use ACV and other methods just to get their hair clean.

Bobeam's bar lathered well, didn't strip, yet my scalp felt clean.

I just bought samples of the Coconut Milk & Beer and Honey Shampoo bars from Chagrin Valley. This time, I made sure that the bars I ordered had no added scent.

I've tried two bars, one from Pura (Minty) and the other from Kyra's Ultimate (Honey Butter).

The bar from Pura was a disaster. Stripped my hair and literally made it squeak, but it also made my hair sticky with a thick, waxy coating. A mess. I ended up clarifying it out of my hair.

The Kyra bar was a totally opposite experience. Lathered beautifully, cleaned my hair nicely, and left it soft and fluffy.

I think I'll stick with poo bars from now on. After 5 years of being here, I have yet to find a regular, sulfate-free shampoo that doesn't dry my hair out.

Yes, Chagrin Valley, No... I rather regular shampoo usually because sometimes I end up over cleansing and over moisturizing with poo bars BUT for scalp issues or if you need moisture poo bars are a good choice. I never rub the bar on my hair it gives me shedding.
I work up a good lather with "filtered water" and then apply the lather to my scalp and follow with a nice dc or acv rinse to bring back the moisture NOT to cleanse because on my scalp acv cannot cleanse or clarify jack lol.
If you don't have a shower filter and you're in a hard water area I would not suggest chagrin valley because you will have a film...

I second (or third) Bobeam bars. I have the Cheris Hibiscus, Shealoe, Goat's Milk and Honey (and Oats), and Honey Hemp and Green tea. She's amazing, her service is amazing, and the bars are excellent.

I've also tried bars from NJoi, which was my first experience, and they're very nice too. I've used KBB Juicy Bar, and I think I have a carrot poo bar from Afroveda. I don't have super hard water so I have good success with them all. I do two swipes downward on each section of my hair, massage super well, and rinse. I use significantly less than traditional shampooing, and as I move toward more natural ingredients, I find these to be a great alternative to traditional shampoo (with far fewer ingredients to go through). I do always follow with an acv rinse, but I do that regardless of cleansing method.

daydreem2876, can you elaborate on that? Like which ones in particular you like and why? TIA!

Thus far I have used the honey beer and egg, coconut milk, and carrot milk and honey.

I have been wearing my hair straight during the holiday season and all three have left my hair more moisturized and soft, without having to add additional moisturizers after wash day (I use aphogee 2min, DC'd w/shea moisture deep mask and use shea moisture curly styling milk to blow dry). I usually have to add something the next day but since using the bars, I haven't had to add anything until next wash day.

After the wash, my hair and scalp feel clean and not stripped therefore I didn't have to use anything to lubricate my scalp, again, not until the next wash day. Also, I have not experienced any buildup (I was busy and did not have to but its not a practice i am going to continue, winter is harsh and the hair here in the Windy City). Also the conditioners seems to be more effective.

I like the honey beer and egg best because it left my hair with that natural looking shine you can't get with oils. I will be getting the full size bar of that and also get samples of what i don't have. The bars in general are so much easier to use. Also, you get a lot of bang for you buck. I will easily get 4-5 washes out of the samples, which is good to see how effective a particular bar really is. I have a few more samples to try. I will let you know how those go.

Are you ladies still using/loving the BoBeam shampoo bars? If so, which would you rec for a person suffering from a dry/somewhat irritated scalp? I am looking to purchase a bar for both my dh & ds to use.

Many thanks in advance for your response,
tishee

I've used the CV shampoo bars- extra honey/beer and the coffee one. They clean the hair and scalp well without drying it out, but I have stopped using them since they started to make my scalp really sore/tender. I may have had an allergic reaction to them. When I used them, I used them as my only shampoo.

i tried one of my 3 chagrin valley bars tonight. the babassu marshmallow. i like it. hair felt clean, but not stripped.

i'm also waiting for some bobeam bars to arrive. cant wait to get em.

I recently bought the Butter Bar Conditioner Shampoo Bar from Chagrin Valley. Loooooooooooooooove it.

I have the butter bar...think ill try that next.

BEAUTYU2U . Do you find you need to condition after using this bar? Or do you use a conditioner after it anyway (just because you want to or feel you should). Just tryna figure out how I might try this bar since it's supposed to be "conditioning".

I'm hoping it'll work well on its own.

youwillrise - I do not condition after using the bar. There's no need! My hair is soft and easy to detangle. It simplifies wash day.
