I have a real question.

But do you ladies feel that drinking can mess with hair growth and health?
I mean social drinking, not drinking like a drunk!

Just a question, I have tons lol :look:

lol, I wonder if there is any correlation. I drink on occasion and I don't need anything to stunt my hair growth. lol

Drinking alcohol dehydrates you (depletes your internal system of water i.e. moisture). Why do you think drinking water has such positive results on hair health/growth? Not only that but alcohol can deplete the mineral zinc from your body as well and zinc is necessary for maintaining healthy hair.

"Alcohol is a diuretic, so it causes accelerated dehydration. A lack of body fluid causes dry and brittle hair. Excessive alcohol consumption can deplete levels of iron in the body, leading to hair loss.

So yeah, drinking alcohol can affect the health of your hair, but not noticeably unless you're a frequent/heavy drinker or an alcoholic. Drink socially, but don't over do it...you have nothing to worry about. Just make sure after you drink alcohol that you drink plenty of water.

no big deal for occasional/social drinking

but it does deplete your vitamins and B's so taking them is important before and/or after drinking

I don't think a glass here and there would harm the hair (I hope lol), but alcohol is drying so any drinking will dry out your body. Drink a glass of water with every glass of alcohol and your hair and body will be okay.

I'm in trouble, then. I have a glass of red wine daily before bed. Red is supposedly good for your heart.

But as long as you are drinking plenty of water, I don't see the harm. I drink a great deal of water on a daily basis and I'm also pretty physically active.

Have you heard anything about this issue, NBB?

You would have to be really really sick or experience terrible damage to the hair follicles before your stops growing.

Drink on!

Probably not, at least not short term, or in "moderation", but by the time anyone starts to really get effect by alcohol consumption they usually have a greater problems than hair.

I think it certainly can't help, it dehydrates you and depletes your body of important vitamins for growth.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I drink per year.

YES. Any type of drug (cigarettes, alchohol, medications etc.) has an effect on the health of not only your body, but your hair. I learned the hard way that the birth control I was taking was not only making me gain tons of weight, but it was changing the way my hair felt and the amount of growth I was receiving. A couple months ago I decided to stop taking the birth control and my hair growth rate seemed to increase! No lie....I was stuck in between SL and APL for the last 1 1/2 years and since I stopped, I'm about an inch away from APL!

Lol!! So do I! I also drink two cups of water after that!

Honestly I noticed major hair issues from drinking. I drank a lot in college and for a few years after. It was just social drinking, but it's still binge drinking. I finally stopped all forms of it last year. My hair is doing a lot better, but still recovering.

Me too. I had to def tone it down. My hair seems softer now.

Only if you drink enough regulary to dehydrate yourself on the consistant bases. I drink plenty of water when I do drink so no problem for me.

In moderation, no. Too much of it, heck yeah. P.S. If you're drinking so much, your hair is the least of your problems. You have your liver and kidney to worry about.
