I've been doing it for years, before I knew what a hhj was, actually I primarily dust. Well, I will do it but still feel the need for a professional from time to time. Yesterday, I let a stylist trim my hair because it was a 1.5 years since I had a professional trim and thought maybe I needed it. Maybe I just need to be more confident I don't know.
I've never in my life gone to a salon or hairdressers because everyone in my family did things themselves regarding hair.
So when I did trim I had a mirror to inspect my ends and I would just cut it off to make them look even. Sometimes I twist my hair and then trim and sometimes I just stretch my hair out, examine the ends or feel the ends and cut them off and clip them away.
I just self trimmed for the first time ever last weekend. I used Feye's self trimming method. I was scared as heck but her method makes it easy and I had great results.
I've always been a self trimmer, I've never been one to care if I messed up because I always thought oh well it's just hair it'll grow back, I know that a lot of people don't think like that But I just do a self trim if I see split ends or if I want to even things out.
Hmm, I starting trimming a few years ago after learning about its importance from some college friends. At first, I asked others to trim my hair and then I slowly started doing it myself. At that time, I wore my hair flat ironed, so I just made it even. I felt comfortable doing a regular trim/dusting myself after one year of practice.
Now, I wear roller sets most of the time, so I trim each small section of my hair before I roll it up.
