Den1, here are some threads on self-relaxing from my favorites. HTH. I don't know if there is info on strand testing, though. I have yet to see that. I did a strand test on my hair prior to self-relaxing by just taking some shed hairs from my head and slathering some relaxer on them. I waited various times for the strands to see how the new growth would be affected as well as how the relaxer would affect my already relaxed hair. I don't know if this is how the professionals do it, but it certainly raised my comfort level regarding the effect of the relaxer on the hair. I could watch the reaction occur in front of me and safely, before I put the relaxer on my head. Good luck to you. I am sure others may have better strand testing recommendations.

den1, I snip strands from my head so that I know where on my head they came from (different textures). Since you're only doing one section, you'll already know where they came from. I tape the hair to cardboard and label it with the area from which they came and the start/end time. I apply the relaxer to it, but don't smooth as much as I would if I was doing my head since the extra pressure from smoothing a few strands would be more than I'd be applying to my head. Sometimes I apply it to the entire strand to see what it would do if I wanted to go over the entire strand on my own head. I rinse the strands, neutralize, and condition. Then I air-dry the strands. If it looks like it's not texturized enough, I repeat the process until it looks like what I want.

It's more work to do it this way, but I think my hair is worth it.

I have previously posted about how I do strand tests. It should show up in a search.

Thanks for the information curlycurly, I will have more than one section tested as i have a few areas which need more processing.

oh, Ok. Good luck to you. Texturizing is tricky, but once you get it down the results are wonderful.
