With cooking oil. Yes, cooking oil.

So my flat-ironed hair was feeling very dry and crispy. Kind of in desperation, a few nights ago I went into the kitchen, took my bottle of cooking oil from the cupboard. It is labelled "Vegetable Oil" and in smaller letters "refined soybean oil." I oiled my hair with it (I figured, if it didn't work, I would just wash it out since my hair was due for a wash anyway.) To my surprise, it left my hair feeling moist, and yet still bouncy.

The next night, I decided to wash. Since the cooking oil had worked so well before, I added more of it to my hair before washing. Then after washing and conditioning, instead of applying my leave-in first, then sealing with oil. I added oil to my naked hair, let it soak in a few minutes, and then added my leave-in. Afterwards I braided my hair for a braid out.

Now my hair is feeling much more moist and elastic than I can remember in a long time. Usually my braid outs get dry and crunchy after a couple of days, but this one is still going strong three days later. I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but just thought I'd share.

i'll sure try it! 30-something ounces for $5? hell yeah!

Olive Oil is a cooking oil, Coconut Oil is a cooking oil, avocado oil is a cooking oil so why wouldn't your regular Crisco or Wesson work?

Happy that you found something that works.

Thanks!

What you say is true - I meant "plain old refined cooking oil". You know how sometimes from the hair boards it might seem like you have to get the extra-virgin organic cold pressed oils, or else it won't work.

And putting just oil on your hair (without a moisturiser first) is not the orthodoxy around here. The mantra is "oil seals, it doesn't moisturise", which is technically true, but ...

I've done it lol. When I run out of my fave oils.
