Today is Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday. It is a day that commemorates the Lord's last supper with His disciples.

Jesus poured out His blood so that our sins may be forgiven. With all the transgressions we have made, do make, and will make, an ultimate sacrifice was required to restore our relationship with God the Father. Before Christ came, such sacrifices included the blood of animals, etc. With Christ, the spotless Lamb of God, we have the perfect sacrifice to take away all of our sins. Note that despite His impending pain and suffering, Jesus stuck to the path God set out for Him ... He stuck to God's will.

Let today be a day that humbles us. Confess your sins to God. (Recommended reading, Psalms 51 - forgiveness.)

Draw closer to God. Remember that the blood of Jesus paid the price for our sins.

Renew your mind from this day forward to leave sin behind. Consider the suffering Jesus experienced for us. (Strongly recommended reading, Romans 6 - sin's power is broken.)

Matthew 26:20-30 (NIV)
Jesus and the Disciples Share the Last Supper

20When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21And while they were eating, he said, "I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me."

22They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, "Surely not I, Lord?"

23Jesus replied, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born."

25Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, "Surely not I, Rabbi?"
Jesus answered, "Yes, it is you."[a]

26While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body."

27Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. 28This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom."

30When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Matthew 26:36-39 (NIV)
Jesus Agonizes in the Garden

36Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." 37He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38Then he said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me."
39Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
