Screamed at a Stylist Today

This is EXACTLY why I havent stepped in a salon for 4 yrs! I braid my own hair I cant do weaves though and I'm really grappling with the idea of going to get a weave done cause I would choke a bytch

I'm glad you fought back! It's time we stood up to these shear welding tyrant hair "Stylists" and yell NO!! to useless unasked for "trims." The revolution will be not be televised. IT WILL BE BLOGGED!.

You should've said "I SAID NO!!!:hardslap:"........i'm jus playin!!!

But yeah....you should stand up for what you want...bc you're paying HER...she's not paying YOU to do YOUR hair!:nono:

For some reason, the visual of you having to yell at the stylist made me laugh. I'm very glad that you stood up for yourself! I want to go to a salon so bad, but I'm scurred....

well I am just glad that you held your ground and didnt allow some fool to mess up your hair.

Congrats to you!

good job, op! i can just see you screaming NO! and her throwing her hands up in surrender and hanging her head

I'm gald you spoke up because most of time people don't. They let the stylist do what they want to anyway and then declare they had no idea the person was doing it. Good for you.

:lachen::lachen::lachen: I've gone through Op but got all my hair cut off. And I've been a DIY'er for the most of 10-15 yrs. Good job Op! Hope she didn't get ya.

It is not a luxury to leave, it is a luxury to lose your temper over a service - that is a luxury.

It is generally a given that your hair will be blow dried to some extent, unless you have no shrinkage.

Sorry to hear about your frustrating experience. That's like the cabbie trying to charge me double fare today and, yada yada. Crap we deal deal with.

I commend you! You were right to loudly declare what you didn't want her to do! I hear too many horror stories from ladies on this board about their stylists cutting their hair off when they specifically asked them not to. If I used to still go to salons, I wouldn't have even debated with her...I would've got up off of that chair and left. If I go to a salon I expect to get the services I requested. You shouldn't leave a salon feeling depressed or all stressed out about your hair.

My thoughts exactly.

Stylists have gotten their way for so long. They just think they can do anything to your hair and get away with it. I'm glad you got loud. Maybe next time she will just do what you asked. She already got away with the blow drying. I hope your braids look good. Don't let her stop your goal!

Next time? :nono:. I'm never going back there for sure. The braids were nice but never again. I suspect she will try to BC me everytime I go in there. I will just give stylists a miss from now on.

I am glad you stood your ground and the title of this thread is not "horrible experience at the salon" or something. I hope your braids look good.

In the future, would learning to do the braids yourself be an option? I had zero experience with styles of any kind before I found LHCF, but I learned how to braid and twist with extensions, saving myself both the headache of dealing with persistent stylists and the huge labor upcharges at salons. That way, you can keep wearing braids during your transition.

Good luck with the rest of your transition. I hope if you did let her run the scissors up the braids, none of your actual hair is damaged.

I tried to braid once. It did not end well plus I just don't have the time with the kind of work I do.

I'm gald you spoke up because most of time people don't. They let the stylist do what they want to anyway and then declare they had no idea the person was doing it. Good for you.

To be honest, the second time she insisted, I nearly gave in but then I remembered how I'd planned to have my BC with pictures and a video and cutting it by myself with conditioner in my hair, and maybe my SO will be there. I wasn't going to let some crazy stylist who had no idea about my journey just take that away from me so I said No!

Oh my...girl, pls tell me this isnt the place I recommended...hair stylists really do suck! Im planning to get my hair done this week (weave) and debating about how to approach it...maybe will wash/condition/blow out at home and just let them do the cornrows for me? argh, why are some hair stylists so overbearing! if I could cornrow really well I would never bother with salons either

The other day one of my white friends mentioned how stylists use to always try to trim her hair with and without her permission:yep: She shared how a prom updo turned into a shoulder length bob :look: After that she thought it was just that stylist, she has since found out many stylists want to cut her tailbone length hair in a bad way......she only allows her mother to trim her hair. Her mother has hip length hair.
