I posted a longer version of this in my blog but I had to vent here .

I went to a salon I have frequented in the past to get my hair shaped and a few long layers. My ends were in good shape and I told the stylist to take no more than one inch off the length. I walked in with long armpit length curls when wet and to make a long story short, I now have a barely shoulder length bob. And I can't figure out where she put any "layers".

After undoing my pincurls this morning, I had an above the shoulder curly bob. It was unbelievably curly. Way too curly. So curly that I felt my only alternative to get it to lay down was to wet it down and start over. And I am cheap y'all so you know I had to be unhappy to rinse all that money down the drain. So I rinsed it with conditioner and ponytail rollerset what I have left on black and gray rollers.

I am upset y'all. It will take over a year for me to get all that length back. I am really thinking about calling the owner to complain.

So if any of you ever, ever, EVAH hear me saying anything about letting any "professional" near my hair again, you have my permission to :bat:.

I will be doing my hair completely by myself for the rest of my life. I didn't want to cut it myself because I was afraid to mess it up. I now know that I could have done it. I know I couldn't have been any more unhappy than I am right now . I knew better, and I should have trusted myself  .

well I'm really glad to hear you werent literally scalped! lol

sad, and I know its frustrating but its a good lesson to learn. I have been my own hair's keeper for many years now and I'm so much happier for it

:nono: I'm so sorry to hear that!! Had u visited that particular stylist before? I think s/he would had to catch a left hook...Not cool.

btw yes you should make the call to complain

it might not take a year at all, this will pass quickly, It seems to me and I have found after a good cut the hair growth seems to speed up to get back

this will pass

but yeah its best to do your own hair or have your eyeballs fixed on their every move and even that doesnt totally prevent these things

there are some stylists out there that will show you every step what they are doing-if I were going to a stylists I would never accept anything else

:nono::nono: I am soo sorry honey.....
A mad stylist Strikes again....

These are the stories that Keep me VERY happy at home on a Saturday morning.... I will NEVER let one of those people near my head.:nono:

I am so sorry to hear this. I am way too paranoid to go to a stylist these days. I actually watched some videos on youtube to get tips on self-layering and trimming. The last time I went for a simple trim, I lost 4 inches.

It will grow back, and next time, you'll know who you can't trust!

Girl I want to hug you right now! I am so sorry. AHHHHH!!! It happened to me too so I know exactly how you feel! I will NEVER ever EVER in my life EVER go to a stylist again for anything!

I just read my blog and I want to cry with you. Why don't you start over your hair journey with me. I am also starting over. God bless.

Yea, I am terrified too.....

I would go to Jail :bat: :jail:

PatTodd, I am so sorry this happened to you and you ABSOLUTELY SHOULD complain. In fact, they owe you damages, as far as I'm concerned. My sister is a stylist and she says that the reason we don't always get the cut we want is because the stylist is incapable of doing so. And instead of just SAYING they're unable to do what we want they just kinda throw caution to the wind and give it the old college try. That is completely unacceptable. I am so sorry, and you must let yourself be heard. If you have pics, please share them with the owner, as well as physically show her what has been done to your hair. It won't bring it back, but hopefully it will save another. Again, I am so sorry. This is hasn't happened to me in a very long time because, like you, I'd decided enough was enough and no longer wanted fingers I couldn't trust in my hair. It's actually why I ended up natural so many years ago.

I feel bad for you too. When we posted our updates for the year, I was so embarrassed because my middle hadn't filled in all the way. Anyhow, I am so grateful for all the women who told me to be patient with it, afterall my hair came a loooong way from it's starting point. I was going to cut it even, because alot of people on here have such nice long even hair. My ends aren't split so I'll keep bunning (I have to try the dusting thing too) until it reaches the bottom of my bra. On the bright side, your hair is probably real full and you shouldn't have to cut it for about a year right?

I'm sorry to hear this too. I guess we can say that AT LEAST you have learned an important lesson and now definately know you can do your hair for yourself. Trust yourself more! I had a MAJOR problem with a so called stylist back in January 2008 and although my hair has not totally recovered, I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and the condition and length of my hair is getting a lot better. I have since gone back to another salon and I am very happy with the stylist. Actually, if it wasn't for the incident last year, I would not have looked to grow, longer, healthier hair and would probably not of had the progress I've had in the last 8 months or so.
I guess everything happens for a reason.
I don't even think it will take a whole year to get your length back if you stick to a good regimen.
Good luck and HHG!

She needs her butt kicked, this is why it took me 2 yrs to go to another stylist. The last one I went to did exactly what I asked her. But her assistant tried that ripping through my hair and I stopped her. Sorry that happened to you.:wallbash:

:nono: I'm so sorry this happened to you :nono:

And this is the reason why I haven't let anyone cut my hair since April 2007. I would rather cut my own hair and mess it up than pay somebody to scalp me. Just keep growing, don't let this set back disappoint you. You will get to APL again.

I'm so sorry to hear that. At least we're in it together, as I have also vowed never to see a stylist again.

You'll grow your hair back, may be it will be thicker than before!

If you call... I'm guessing you should get ready for some ignorance or rudeness from the stylist, but express yourself anyway!

Thanks everyone for your support and your replies. The ponytail rollerset came out great and I am going to fix the cut in the front the way I wanted it done later.

This is a family-type shop - I have been going off and on for years, my husband and kids go there and many of my friends go there. I would really looooooove to call and complain but since my family has an ongoing relationship with them it would do more harm than good. I have a very strong feeling that they know I am not happy. And I will just never ever get my hair done there again under any circumstances.

I always try to look on the bright side and I guess that I can say that I have learned to have confidence in my ability to do my own hair. I can see that my hair is in beautiful condition thanks to my care and the skills that I have learned here on LHCF.

And I will be MSM'ing and Megateking for the rest of the year. :yep:

I'm really sorry this happened to you, it is why, for the last 10 years I have cut my own hair, I refuse to pay someone to do to my hair what I could do for free. Your hair will grow back, and I don't blame you for wanting to complain.

Im sorry!!! This happened to me the beginning of December and I was fuming and crying!!!:cantlook: My mom actually was going to call her but lucky for her she had left the shop for the day and the next day I told her not to worry its no use because it wouldn't get me my hair back. But I will never be going back to her again you can believe that. All in all I know it sucks. Yes it does and there will be some days after you will "grieve" for your unintentionally lost hair. Some may feel thats extreme but when you loose hair, especially against your wishes, its an awful feeling. We all know how important it is and how much time energy and devotion we put into caring for and growing our tresses. To see it loped off in one foul swoop is emotionally taxing.
However, now that its gone, look to the future and continue the practices you used to grow it the first time. Believe it or not you will get used to it in a few weeks and it won't feel AS short as it does now. The good news is you won't be needing a trim for a LONG time and your ends are probably in really good shape. I don't know if its still all one length? If so you migh want to probably just nix the layers until your hair is longer again.
Once again, I am so sorry!!! I know your pain!!! These stylists just don't care. There are FEW who get it when you tell them something.

Your post is so right on, especially the bolded. Thanks!

Same thing happened to me...the lady even told me "Don't ever let anyone cut your hair." Then she proceeded to do just that. Like a whole host of you, I do my own hair now.

There is this girl Lorrraine on you tube...the name of the video is "How I trim (dust) my hair". She does a great job of dusting it herself....even in the BACK, which is where I am not so great because I have a V formation.

The best thing to do is be strong when they say you need a trim because they WILL get nasty if you refuse.

I am only going to let him trim it when I reach beyond my goal length and I can afford it. Nobody is setting back my hard work.

I'm sorry this happened to you.

AGAIN. IF ANYONE NEEDS A DUSTING...I CAN DO IT. I live in suburban New York, near White Plains, and I'm good with hair. I've learned how to take of the teeniest bit of hair but the hair looks like its trimmed.

It'll grow back honey

I am very sorry to hear, when ever I went to the hairdresser, every 2 months, your hair would be always the same length. I was on another board and giving people hair cuts instead of trims, keep customers coming back. I would say that you go to a long hair specialist or do your trimming yourself. Your hair will grow back, what is so sad is that the amount of work you put in your hair, I am very sorry and you should complain.

Aw Pat, I'm so sorry this heppened to you. There is nothing quite like getting your hair chopped against your wishes. I've been there and it sux. Since discovering LHCF, DH is the only one I let near my hair.

May God grant you speedy hair growing. :bighug:

I am so sorry to hear this. All your hard work! Fortunately you know how to care for your tresses and it will be back sooner than you think. :yep:
