hey ladies I need all of your opinions please! for the past 2 or 3 weeks I've been noticing that my scalp has mid -large size flakes & is itchy and very dry since I took the last set of box braids down. I'm pretty sure it was the surge,( I also up'd my biotin in take to 900 mcg ) so I'm doing hot oil treatments-washing 1 to 2x weekly, but it's not helping /images/graemlins/wallbash.gif ! I want to put my hair back in box braids next week & start surging too! should I wait till I get it under control? or what? /images/graemlins/cry3.gif Do you ladies have any product suggestions? HELP, HELP, HELP!

It may have been the braids. I had the same issue when I had braids. I, however, am allergic to synthetic hair too. I used neutrogena T-Sal shampoo before my regular shampoo for a few weeks and used a t-tree oil mix I purchased and my scalp returned to normal after about 2-3 weeks.

The Oil:
The brand is Mega Care. They make quite a few different oils. I have only bought the Tea Tree Oil and the Vitamin E Oil. Oh and it is a 2 FL Oz bottle for $1.99

Ingredients in the Tea Tree Oil: Tea Tree Oil, Castor Oil, Cottonseed Oil, BHA, and Fragrance

Ingredients in the Vitamin E Oil: Vitmain E, Castor Oil, Sunflower Oil.

I have used both and had good results with both. But I liked the tea tree better because of the healing agents it possesses.

For a while, I was having flakes around my hairline after a touch-up--the big ones. My husband uses Nizoral (prescription strength) for his hair because he gets some dermatitis flare-ups from time to time. I used his shampoo on my hair and it worked wonders in one application. So, this is what I used when regular dandruff 'poos did not cut it. As a matter of fact, they have an OTC version. I see it all the time in the pharmacies--and I recently read that the main ingredient in this 'poo has the pleasant side effect of decreasing hair fall and stimulating growth! If you run out of options, give Nizoral a try, but follow with a moisture 'poo as well. HTH By the way, I only applied to my scalp and did not work through my hair.
