Basically I wanted a cut like lethalpleazures, with around 3-4 inches in the back/sides (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwqyGVwLcOc) but instead, she gave me like an inch in the back, that I can't do anything with, and then left all 8 inches on top like I wanted. Because I couldn't see what she was doing in the back, I couldn't even direct her. I'll put pictures asap
As you can see, there is a very sharp demarcation between the back and the front, and what I wanted was a taper, and when I have the front in a twistout, the demarcation is even more obvious and weird looking. Should I just get a wig and wait it out? Or do you have any styling recommendations for me?
I your haircut. Gushes and dreams of styles. Girl you need to rock that high top fade, why you playing. You will have another inch of hair before you know it.
Styles
1. Bun the middle and leave the back and sides out
2. Twist the middle, pin into fro hawk
3. Wear a twist out
4. Bantu knot the middle, and pat the sides and back down.
5. Bantu knot out should give you the best result
I think your sides are too long so pat them in to give a more dramatic look. Also the models hair has a tighter curl than you, so a bantu might give you the edgy look in the photo.
Ah thank you so much! I needed a pick me up!!!
Okay I will follow your styles, and go by me some gel and an afro pick to figure stuff out. I just hope the back grows out soon so I can do an all over twist out
The instagram pic doesn't look anything like the girl's hair in the video that you posted. So I hope that wasn't what you showed the stylist. And I hope you also explained verbally to her how you wanted your hair.
I've had something similar happen to me. The first time I went to the stylist she did my hair perfectly; small curls that progressively get larger from the nape up. The second time I went, I guess she was tired because she just shaved the back off. Stylists get lazy sometimes, and they will break out the clippers for short cuts if it looks like too much work for the shears.
There's not much I can think of to do about correcting shaved hair besides: wearing a wig, shaving the rest down to match, or wearing it as is, until it grows back.

I don't want to cut it off, because I like the shape of the front, I just don't know what to do about the back, but I'll use Seamonster's suggestions and see how it looks

I showed her the instagram picture and then verbally explained the back, and how I wanted it to gradually get longer...but I guess she didn't understand what I meant. And stylists have no right to be lazy, afterall they're getting paid aren't they
Urgh just sick and tired of it all right now. Hopefully it grows out nicely in a month or so
Yeah that stylist obviously doesn't know what "gradual" means.
How was your hair when you went in? Shrunken, stretched, straight? I'm just trying to understand how this screw up occurred. It seems so simple. I could have done it.
It looks cute in the front though. Once the back grows out some, you'll have the look you wanted.
This is why I am a DIYer. If I can't do it, or my mama. It wont get done.
I suggest going to a barber and letting him/her taper the back where the indent is so you have a smoother blend as your hair gets longer ... otherwise I like the front. and I agree.. lose the headband, it makes your hair look extra weird
waffigrl - You should have showed the stylist this pic:
You cannot always assume that the stylist knows what you're talking about when trying to describe how you want the back of your hair style while only showing a picture of the front view of the hair style.
Yeah I should have, but the damage is done anyways. I think I'm done with salons though, be they natural hair or not. This is going to be homemade haircare for here on out
(this is my 3rd setback in three years due to a salon: heat damage, burnt hair, uneven cut). I might just leave my hair in braids and just leave it alone
