Salerm Products

Hello Ladies, just wondering has anyone used the Salerm Products? I recently purchased the Protein Champu, Balsam Protein Conditioner and the Mascarilla hair treatment the stylist at the salon where I purchased them from told me to wash/condition every 3 days for 3 weeks and after 3 weeks to continue washing/conditioning but only use the Mascarilla once weekly. If anyone has used these products please let me know what your results were/are. It's funny regarding all the talk of Dominican Salons in New York the one I went to here in Massachusetts had nothing but black women there getting there hair done, basically all of them had gorgeous healthy looking below the shoulder length hair. Also, I was talking with one of the patrons there who told me (which I already know) they are not the best stylist but they are very knowledgable about our hair and what products are best in the health & care for our hair.

I've gone to a Dominican salon in my area a few times. At this salon, most of their clients were AA females, as a few of their clients were not. All of the females had healthy looking hair (which seems to be pretty much the norm for a great Dominican salon).

I don't have an answer to your question, but have been anxious to try these products for a very long time. I am thinking about ordering from metrobeauty.com, but am confused about the hair treatments. They have three different treatment vials, but no description as to what they are used for. I would also like to know if anyone has used these products and what their results were. Thanks.

I have used the Protein Shampoo. It's one of my favorites along with Lanza Protein Plus, Aubrey's Island Butter and Elucence shampoos. A tiny amount makes a lot of lather. I thought it was going to strip my hair with all that soap, but my hair was soft and easy to comb afterwards.
My cousin actually found a Dominican salon in Ocala FL of all places! She says she loves it. She has about 6” of new growth (3c) and 15” of relaxed hair. A $25, non greasy hairstyle lasts until her hair gets wet. And she's never in there longer than 2-3 hrs. She says everyone leaves with their hair blowing in the wind. LOL
Why is that Dominican stylists manage to be cheap, fast and have clients with healthy hair when almost everyone else makes you wait 4 hrs for the "privilege" of an empty wallet and unhealthy hair?
In the Dec/Jan 2003 issue of Soph. Black Hair there is a little insert called Salon Talk. They talk about not overbooking unless the customer knows in advance and long waits being the #1 client complaint. I didn't even think they knew! I thought a 6 hour salon visit was standard operating procedure!
If I were a cosmetelogist and saw all these black women going to other salons I'd try to copy what they were doing...

Girl please, I think I got the #1 record for being in a salon for the longest amount of time. The salon opened at 9 am. I was the first customer there. In fact I was there before the salon opened because I figured, first in, first out. Don't you know I was the last customer to leave at 10 at night? All I was getting was simple sew-in weave that didn't even take the woman more than 15 minutes to do. It was because she wanted to take in every customer that came in wanting relaxers, press and curls and braids. She's lucky I didn't have anything to do that day.

OMG that is outrageous!!! I would've left!!! You are incredibly patient to wait all day and evening!?

I will never EVER put up with being made to wait a long time again. Joseph's was the last one to do it, having triple/quadriple bookings for the same stylist /images/graemlins/mad.gif WTF?The more customers stop waiting forever, the more salons will HAVE to work professionally if they don't want an empty room.

Jazzyfunknastee, GIRL! You have nerves of steel!

Amen to that. My last time was in 1998. I had been in SC for three months. I had gone to a few stylists for wash and styles so I could check them out. No one measured up. I desperately needed a touch-up! I went to a woman that was highly recommended by my cousin and her friend. She didn't arrive at work until 4pm that day and started on the people that had been waiting since 8am. She had a fight with her boyfriend the night before and had overslept. I know this because she was on the phone the whole time telling all her friends and family. She even stopped working to eat some buffalo wings! Then her boyfriend showed up and they started screaming and cursing at each other in the parking lot...
To make a long story short, I had a 2pm appt. and was there until closing time. When I got home I washed my hair and attached a fake ponytail because the style she gave me was so greasy and hideous. And I was out $65!! /images/graemlins/mad.gif From that day on if a stylist made me wait longer than 20 minutes or if the enviornment was too ghetto, I was outta there!

Hi Jada,

What's the name of that salon you bought the Mascarilla hair treatment from? I'm going to go for a wash and set, no trim, and see how I like it. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jada, I was only able to find the Salerm Biokera Intensive Mask is that the same as the Mascarilla hair treatment? Thanks.

Fill in a neophyte. What IS a dominican salon, anyway? I'm inferring that most of the stylists are immigrants from the Dominican republic???

Hi Motherof2 in response to your question the Biokera Line is different from the Mascarilla, the Mascarilla comes in a yellow box and I believe the main ingredient is Wheat Germ Oil.

Hi Pebbles, I bought the products from Pisces Hair Salon, they are located on Hancock Street in the Uphams Corner Area you can also find them at City Beauty Supply on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain. The products are cheaper at the Beauty Supply store, but I wanted a stylist to see my hair to reccomend the right products for my hair type. Oh I also have to share with you I went for a wash & set today at Raphaels located on Washington St. in Roslindale and let me tell you just like I told him he is the stylist for me, I am so happy with the outcome of my hair oh what a wonderful experience it was he answered all my questions, recommended products and he kept saying to me I can't believe you do your own hair its so healthy...I take back what I said in an earlier post this man can style hair, the wait was probably about a half an hour (I was a walk-in) he had 2 other women ahead of me. I am going back to him probably on Sunday to get some color, everyone that came out of there that he had done their hair looked fabulous. Pebbles when/if you decide to go ask for Raphael, the other 2 women there did good work also but, I am just so pleased with what he did to my hair and the fact that he speaks very good english is a big plus for me, sorry so long I am just very pleased with Raphael.

LOL If it's one thing I pride myself on it's my patience. As long as I got something to read, I'm good. But then again if I left the salon, I would have had to walk around wth busted hair. It was a lose-lose situation /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ive actually used the Champu', the Mask and the Balsamo conditioner and I have no complaints (except for the strong perfume sent). I prefer the balsam condtioner the best. I've only used the mask once so i cant really rate it but overall I would give the balsam an A and the Champu an A-.

Hi Jada,

That's great that he was so good! I'm really excited for you because I KNOW how hard it is to find a good hairdresser around this town. Did he do a rollerset for you or did he use a blowdryer and hot curling iron? I don't use heat appliances any more. I just want to have a rollerset and have it combed out. No blowdryers, and absolutely no trim. Do you think Raphael will mind doing what I ask of him?

Hi HoneyVibe you are correct in your inference....basically they have similar hair to most of us and they utilize a technique in which they blow dry your roots after a roller set. I have nothing agaist AA stylist but for me the Dominicans do my hair the best.....put it like this, some may not be impressed with them for whatever reason but anyone who knows about them and/or knows someone that goes to them, that client has long hair...can we say the same about the average AA stylist? Just my opinion /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Pebbles, so sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your question. I tried at work but it would not let me reply well anyway. One thing I have noticed about Dominican Stylist they do exactly what you want them to do. I personally just had a wash/conditioner and he did do a blow out and curl I have seen Dominican Stylist do a rollerset and comb out the hair before they do the blow dry and I have often thought to myself the hair looks great whichever way they do it. Oh just a tip for you there is another Salon on Washington Street that sells the Salerm products and Alter Ego (this product is supposed to make the hair grow at a rapid pace I think it's kind of expensive the shampoo goes for $30.00) not too far from Raphaels they are about a block from his location headed towards Brooks called Intensity hair their phone number is (617)323-8787 Once again sorry it took me so long to respond.

My hairstylist recommended Salerm 21 leave-in conditioner. I used that after Motions CPR to deal with the shedding I'm experienced from my most recent hair disaster. This combo seemed to reduce the shedding noticeably.

Re: Salerm Products (salon wait time)

I worked out an arrangement w/my stylist because THERE'S NO WAY that I have the patience to wait /images/graemlins/smile.gif-- I make my appointments in advance to be her FIRST customer of the day....if I get there at appx. 7 a.m. I'm in & out in under 2 hours.....
