Rusk Argan oil as a heat protectant? What do you think

Hi All,

It's been an age I've posted here.

Just a question. Bought my first set of straighteners the other day and the guy in the shop was trying to get me to buy Rusk Argan oil heat protection. I just thought that with oil surely I would be frying my hair.

Tried to do an Internet search, some threads/articles say "Yay" others say "Nay". Can't figure out what the general consensus is though. Wondered if anyone would say I should definitely give it a go? If not, anyone got salon quality recommendations? I know, I'm just being picky.

Any ingredients list available?

Before using heat, I prepare my hair for the traumatic process with a series of moisturizing deep conditioning treatments. I am less concerned about the products placed on my hair immediately before flat ironing. There are certain ingredients you should look for in deep conditioners and heat protectants to prepare your hair and reduce your risk of heat damage. Google "how heat damages your hair, what ingredients minimize heat"

Thanks. Will double check necessary thermal protectant ingredients. Meanwhile, here's the ingredients. Actual product name is Rusk thermal shine spray.

SD Alcohol 4-B, Cyclopentasiloxane, Hydroflourocarbon 152-A, Alkyl Benzoate, Pathenol, Dimethicone PEG-8, Meadowfoamate, Glycerol-7 Tricetate, Fragrance (Parfum), Benzyl Salicytate, Citronellol, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl, Methylpropional, Limonete, Linalool.

Was definitely planning in DCing beforehand!

Ah brilliant! The google search produces great results. Exactly what I needed. Better than searching for good thermal or heat protectors. Got work to do. Thanks again

I personally would stay away from it. I have section of hair that is heat damaged from flat ironing oily hair so now I make sure my hair is completely oil-free before flat ironing. Oil can boil....

If you do decide to try it out, be sure to test on a small section before doing your whole head.

I don't see any oil in the listed ingredients so the name of this product is a bit misleading. Silicone is the heat protectant ingredient. There are two types of silicones in this product. I highlighted them in blue. Sounds like the standard heat protectant product so you'll be fine as long as you use your heat tools with caution - i.e. don't use the high settings.
