I am fairly new to LCHF and rollersetting and I was wondering how has your hair benefited from rollersetting and wrapping every week. What where your results, pons and cons.

I am planning to try rollersetting this weekend, wish me LUCK!

I did a decent rollerset last Monday, and i got sooo much breakage. I can not benefit from that. :nono:

I rollerset once per week, to straighten or wear a curly style, but I don't wrap or use direct heat. I hardly even use indirect heat (hooded dryer)...I mostly airdry.

PRO: My hair is thicker, stronger and longer.
CON: None

I wish you much success with your rollersetting!

shorthairforever, omg, sorry to hear about the breakage you received whiles doing your rollerset. i wish you luck in the future if you do decide to do another rollerset.

prospurr4, thansk..i will keep you posted on the outcome!

I used to have this problem. It can be one of many things:

-your protein/moisture balance is off so your hair is breaking regardless
-you may need to detangle gently using a detangling spray w/ a shower comb. I know a lot of women detangle while rinsing under the shower head. I found it easier to detangle after the DC penetrates BEFORE rinsing. I detange better this way because I can see what I'm doing.
-slow down! rollersetting takes time and practice. Trust me, I know what its like to want to rip the comb thru, but you must comb gently from the bottom up.

HHG!

pros:
-more body
-better sealed cuticles than airdry hair
-easier to flat iron roots
-more moisturized ends

cons:
-still haven't mastered the art of it
-my uneven hair makes my rollersets look 'blah'
-can be a pain when u don't feel like doing them

You're right. I probably do need to comb more gently. I was taking Snicker breaks, so it did take a long time, though! I finished a whole bag of mini Snicker while doing that rollerset. It's frustrating.

I will probably do a half rollerset, and see if the same thing happens.

THANK YOU!

poochie167, not mastering the art of rollersetting and having uneven hair....i see it works pretty good for you!

Pros:
-my hair appears fuller and has great bounce
- my curls last so much longer
- cute style without heat

Cons:
- i've been rollersetting for years and haven't seen much growth retention( and yes i keep my ends moisturized), but maybe it's because i was wrapping everynight. I recently started pincurling instead
- i see more little broken hairs eventhough i don't roll too tight
- I HATE sitting under the dryer, what a pain!

I just turn on music. That helps me a lot cuz lord knows it takes me over an hour:perplexed

shorthairforever, i was told by other LHCF members to purchase Macherie's Rollerset DVD to help us get better at rollersetting.

Here is the website to purchase the DVD: www.healthytextures.com

Hope that helps!

I love to rollerset but I'm going to stop doing it because of the breakage. Even though my hair is always well detangled when I begin I always seem to loose so much hair. My hair just hates to be combed while wet. No matter how genlte I am my hair just won't have it...:nono:
