I am addicted to the flat irons. I have never tried a rollerset but I have the urge to try it. I think I have 4C hair (Meaning, I don't know if it's a or b, so why not C). Please offer me advice because I really need to get away from the heat!

**What products did you use to gave you a perfect or almost perfect rollerset?

**What tips would you give to a newbie?

**What products did you use to gave you a perfect or almost perfect rollerset? I prefer creme leave-ins: Lacio-lacio, Sedal Verano Intense (for summer), Potion No. 9 and humectress.

I apply the creme mostly to the ends of my hair and run what's left on my palms through the length of the hair.

Too much product will:
1. Weigh down the hair
2. Extend drying time

Practice, practice, PRACTICE.
The first few times that I did a rollerset they were horrible. I was using rollers that were too small and I was too concerned about the "neatness" of the rollers.

Your roller sets don't have to be perfect. The main focus should be on ensuring that the ends are damp enough to properly smooth over the rollers. The other critical point is to not pull the rollers out until your hair is COMPLETELY DRY. Removing rollers before the hair is dry will lead to frizzy hair.

Once the hair is dry, you can do a wrap and you'll have a bouncy do. If you are adventurous, you can blow your roots, but don't expect super straight hair unless you have a high-powered blower (nothing sold at Sally's fits the build).

I don't recommend using the blower on high without sufficient practice, as incorrect us is just as, if not more damaging than the direct heat of a flat-iron.

I too use Lacio Lacio and I love it. (you can buy it on sickbay.biz, no I don't work for them. :) ) My roller sets have come out beautifully on a consistent enough basis for me to say that it works. I am still not that great at rollersetting b/c my roots still end up puffy, but my flat iron has been fixing that problem. I also put a serum (Ecru found at salons) on my hair after I take the rollers out. That helps me to smooth my hair even more. Good luck!

I also have type 4 hair and am 10 weeks post relaxer. I've experimented with different products for rollersetting, but the products that gave me the best results were Motions Leave-In Conditioner (spray) and Smooth N' Shine Hair Polisher. I just used these on Friday after I washed and deep conditioned, and I look like I have a fresh relaxer.

Everything she said and I would add that if you've never had a rollerset done, get one professionally done and pay attention, ask questions, watch to see what size/color rollers and pins are used and let the stylist know you want to learn to do it yourself and hopefully you'l get someone nice enough to give you tips (as I was). I use creamy leave-ins for rollersets, my favorites are: nexxus headdres, salerm 21, giovanni direct used sparingly as Webby states . . .

I played around with different products/regimines to achieve the perfect rollerset, and have found that using a "watery" leave-in (such as Motions, Back to Basics, Razac, etc.), as a setting agent instead of using a setting lotion/foam, gives me a fuller, softer set with a lot of bounce. Back to Basics Sunflower Leave-In is my favorite. (Smells soooo good!!!) ;)

Now, if you're battling humidity in your area, I would suggest using a setting lotion/foam or setting cream for a crisper rollerset. Sometimes, if my set is too soft, it will swell right up like a cotton ball when I go outside. For those times, I use Black N' Sassy Setting Cream to set my hair. HTH!!!!

For me, Lottabody Setting Lotion is the key ingredient to a successful rollerset. It's very concentrated stuff, so you need to dilute it with water or your hair will be too crispy crunchy. I tried Keracare's Setting Lotion, but the set wasn't firm enough. I've taken to diluting my Lottabody with Keracare Setting Lotion and water. After using the setting lotion but before putting the hair in the roller, I run NTM Shine Serum along the length of the hair, concentrating on my ends. This gives a nice shine and adds moisture. Oh, and for me, end papers are an absolute must for a smooth set. HTH. :)

during my fully relaxed days:

wash and condition, put on some Frizz Ease Relax serum (now it's called extra strength serum) on sopping wet hair and detangle a bit, next spray hair with Motions Nourish Leave In and roll with the purple and red magnetic rollers. If the hair began to dry I resprayed with the leave-in (do not respray with water..this caused hard, dry hair for me)..then i would proceed to my hooded dryer (sometimes i would airdry for 30min before sitting under the dryer)...works like a charm! hth

I really like Lacio Lacio but since Ive run out. Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine leave in IS OFFICIALLY THE BOMB!!! I dont think Ill even be going back to Lacio Lacio because of this stuff.
