When I condition my hair, I always let the conditioner stay on for at least 30 minutes and sit under a warm dryer. At this point, the hair cuticle is open (like a shingle in a 45 -90 degree angle) and internally absorbing the benefits of the conditioner. Next, I rinse the conditioner with the COOLEST water I can stand. This closes the cuticle (makes it lie flat against the hair shaft) and traps that conditioner under the cuticle. This is something that has worked for me and just wanted to pass it along.
It is a little like the pores of skin responding to warm and cold water. Skin pores open when you apply a warm towel and contract when you apply cool/cold water.
