Review of Generic "Generic" Chi Straightner

So, today i tried to straighten my hair with one of those Sally's Beauty Generic Chi straightner.
Appearance: "A". looks very much like the orginal Pink Chi Iron. Sturdy looking cord. The plates are flat, not raised, so I didn't have to worry about snags. Looked just like the orginial iron.

Temperature: " B-". It was was easy to use and VERY hot! I suggest you check the heat setting... it can go all the way up to 400 degrees F. Heated up very quick... in fact, almost a little too quick. Kind of scorched my hair and hands a bit. I don't know if the Farouk version has some sort of protection but this one needs rubber where the plates are located.

Performance: "B"
.It was just as smooth as the Chi. Did a pretty good job on the transitioning hair. I had a few tangles but not a lot of snags...I'll just chalk that up to my own lack of skills when it comes to sleek styling. My hair is slightly puffy, but that was because i was having trouble rollersetting it with the vented rollers and clips.... or maybe it doesn't slick down thick 3c-4B hair as easily???

Price: "C". $59 is not that much of a bargain. There are a lot of shops that are selling other brands besides Chi for around the price i paid for this one. Or, if you get lucky, you can get the real thing on Ebay for $20 more.
Hey, btw, do any of you know how to get transitioning hair really sleek with a straightening iron?

Overall:
I'd give it a "B".

Anyone else have a review of generic hair appliances? Oh, what kind of smoothing cream, balm, mist do you use to for straight styles.

Thank you for this review! I was just wishing that I could buy a generic FHI. I have the brand name Sedu but it just doesn't get my hair as sleek as it used to when I first got it about 2 or 3 years ago.

To get my hair bone straight I make sure and put a little oil on it before I blow dry. I also use Loreal's Blow Straight Styling Creme or some other straightening balm (Paul Mitchell, Aveda, Redken are the brands I keep).

I've come to realize that it's all in the blow dry and then the flat iron just finishes off the look. When you blow dry direct the heat down the hair shaft and blow dry your hair in the style you plan to wear it in for a sleek look.

I have the generic "chi" and I'm still deciding if I like it. My blowdry sux so I'm thinking that's why I don't get it as sleek as I would like it.

I keep hearing about Redken products. I may have to give them a try soon..

I LOVE Redken products! You should try them, there are several lines to choose from.

It would be interesting to know about generic iron...I could stand to save some more money. I don't have to have a name brand iron...

What is the return policy, at Sally's and Ulta, on irons, please?
