Replacing your flexirods

Do you stop using your flexirods after a period of time?

I've been using mine on/off for about a year, and more regularly since my BC in January. Everything was swell until about 3 weeks ago: my natural hair won't hold the curly pattern after a night with the rods. I used to achieve springy, soft yet durable curls that I could wear for 2-3 days. These days, I'm lucky if I have 4-5 visible curls after I "unroll" the hair. I haven't changed my regimen in any way. I think my flexirods may simply be losing their grip.

Has any one observed a similar thing? The longer the natural hair becomes, the less strong the ability to hold curls?! :(

Thanks

ETA: I got most of my green (smallest size) rods from a BSS. The ones sold at Sally's BS are a lot more expensive, and the wire beneath the foam just feels weak. I've had a few if those break on me after a few uses.

I've never had that problem. I replace them because the little white caps on the end come off and my hair gets caught or the wire inside breaks and it won't bend anymore.
