ive never done it of course but i was thinkin about doing it with a baby relaxer to manage my thick hair but i was put off.......most peoeple say its the worse thing ever to do to ur hair what is ur point?
I was told that those relaxers formulated for children are actually harder on your hair. I used one when I was having problems thinking that they would be easier on my hair...but it only got worse...after coming online I read bad things about them also.
Keiron, there are many natural, relaxed and texturized ladies here on this board. All of us have one common goal, we want long healthy beautiful hair. nappturality.com is a great website geared for persons caring for natural hair. I am natural and this is where I find alot of helpful tips aside from this board. As to whether you should relax or not, it's really up to you personally. What is your regimen like? I know that you're natural, how do you wear your hair, braids? twists?
hiiiiiiiii iam male just so u know and i wear it in twists really and i do cornrows every now and then not much thoe cause it stresses my hair out but i wanted somthing that can let it lay flat but when my hair is out people love the thickness it has i mean u get attention u feel me heheheh lol.
holla.
when u say regimen is that like washing ur hair....i wash with la keir shampoo and condtion set and then grease scalp with olive oil and use the tea tree/shea butter for the moisurizer from africa best`s and thats it is their anything else i can do. i got all these tips from ladies on the board which iam so thankful for
I haven't relaxed in 3 years & don't miss it a bit. My hair is THICK but I've learned how to work with it. I know some people can have healthy permed hair but it just takes more patience & care than I'm willing to give. For example, for me to have healthy permed hair, I'd have to wet set & I don't like sitting under the hood dryer; if I air-dried, I'd have to use a curling iron & I didn't like using that heat. With natural hair, I don't need to use heat at all to get a good style. Also, I know a lot of women with thinning hair or hairlines 'cause of improper care. With relaxers, you have to be careful--it's not for everybody.
Most people don't like to see guys with beautiful hair do anything that might damage it.

My suggestion is to make your own decision but to understand that you may have a different head of
hair with a different set of needs after processing. It doesn't guarantee that it will be any more manageable than
when it was natural, but it will look different. So if you want a change in the appearance
of your hair, and you want that enough to possibly have to go through the trial and error of developing
a new hair care regime, then GO FOR IT.
No matter which brand or strength I used, my hair just could not withstand the effects of the chemicals combined with my preference of hair maintenance.
Styling chemical-free hair is easier for me and healthier for my hair.
You have to make an informed decision for yourself.
Keiron, since you wear your hair in cornrows/twists most of the time, I would suggest keeping it natural. You said that you're trying to achieve a "flat" look? Maybe you should have your cornrows/twists done tighter-know what I mean. Seriously, once the chemical is in your hair, a LOT more TLC will be needed. Once it's done, it's done. If you don't like the relaxer once you put it in, you're stuck with it until you grow it out-which can take years depending on how long your hair is. The people that I've know to wear braids (my brother) always oiled his hair and tie a do-rag on it overnight
and when he woke up in the morning, it was lookin fresh and oh so clean!
There are benefits to a relaxer, but keep in mind that you will have to get a touch up every 8-12 wks or so and you will have to start deep conditioning, trimming, etc. more often. Hope this helps!
thank u cami i think i wont do it then. lol it seems abit to much work for a man to go through iam cool with twists but its heavy at times u know but thank you.
