Ladies, I decided not to blow dry my hair for Thanksgiving like I said I would, but my SO invited me to see his family up in Maryland and I want to make a good impression on them since he's never taken me to see them before. Every time I've seen them, I'm always bunning, but this time I want them to see my hair, especially since they all have long gorgeous hair. Would it be bad for me to put off my challenge and relax at 9 1/2 weeks so that I won't look like a little formal lady bunning it all the time?

IMHO, I don't see anything wrong with making a good impression... 9.5 weeks is a stretch for sure. So why not doll up for the special occasion?? Be happy you can get dolled up! I have a sneaking suspision that if you don't, you might regret it a little. Then you'll be all set for the holidays, and you won't have to relax again until v-tines days.

JMHO

I probably would break down and get a relaxer and make sure my hair makes an impresion.

i don't see anything wrong with it. a 9week stretch is good enough. And besides just because u are relaxing ur hair a few weeks early just this once, it is not enough to cause any damage. Just do a protein and moisture trtmnt before so that you hair will be healthy and ready. and have fun swangin your freshly relaxed hair over thanksgiving dinner!

i dont see anything wrong with relaxing at 9 weeks. but have you thought about trying a braidout or rodset/rollerset to hide the new growth?

are you in competition w/them? Just because they have long gorgeous hair, you don't have to compromise the health of your hair. 9 1/2 ain't that long. What about a nice blow-out/flat iron?

Everyone's hair is different and behaves differently when stretching. My hair looks pretty good at 9.5 weeks post but I say do what makes you feel most comfortable and happy. How you feel is more important than anything.

I'm sure there will be pictures taken too so you'll want to keep that in mind. :Flahsssss

I take good care of my hair and I usually only stretch 8 weeks without any negative effects and it's still getting healthier. I was just going to challenge myself to four months, but I wanted to hold off and start my challenge in a few weeks. No competition. I just want to make a good impression on his family.

As long as you don't overlap, I can't see what the harm is. You could just get back on the wagon and begin your extended stretching next time.

Softresses:)

I don't see nothing wrong with it. Doesn't sound like 'competition' to me, just a healthy yearning to want to feel beautiful in front of a man you really care for's family.

I would go for it, but then get strict back on my regimen afterwards. How long do you usually stretch?

Usually 8 weeks, but my hair hasn't been fully straight since this....it's AMAZING to me how an extra 2 weeks can cause underprocessing!!!! About 2-3 inches of my hair is underprocessed but I'm handling it well.

I saw that someone else suggested this, but I got a blowout last week because I had an interview. It looked like I had a fresh relaxer. That could be an option for you. Also, 9.5 weeks is still a good stretch should you decide to relax.

I think if you want to relax then relax. 9.5 weeks shouldnt put you at any risk of overlapping or causing excess damage. Or you can get a nice blow out and flat iron like some other ladies have suggested.
