I've used Optimum I liked, Dudleys to strong for my hair, Affirm I like, Design I like but it doesnt last as long in my hair (I think its probably the one that's not as harsh outta all of them that I've used). I've used Affirm the last 3 yrs, but I think I'm gonna switch back to Design since I use all their other products & LLLLOOOOOVVVEE them.
Ive used Design Essentials, Affirm(thats what all the stylist that I went to used to put in my hair), ORS, PCJ, Just For Me, African Pride....i really never noticed any kind of difference between the relaxers...Affirm was my very first relaxer when i first relaxed...always liked that one....
I used Dark & Lovely no-lye for years, until my hair didn't take anymore. I then switched to Optimum super(too strong & burned), I then tried Precise for a while. Now I use Affirm sensitive scalp. I've been using this for approx the past 6 yrs.
Beautiful Beginnings - burned my scalp to high hell and had to wash it out so fast it was like I had a half a texturizer
Dudley's - got my hair bone straight, but always burned
Motions Original, Oil Moisturizer, and Herbal - The OM one was the best. The original burned my scalp and the Herbal one sometimes left me slightly underprocesed
Silk Elements Lye - A great relaxer, got my hair straight in under 15 minutes with not burning or reversion
Just for Me - Can't remember the affects of this relaxer.
Affirm lye - Hair was in the best condition with this, but it was a little too strong for my scalp.
Affirm sensitive scalp no lye - Sensitive scalp my ass! Horrible, horrible, horrible. Is strangely stronger than the regular Affirm and thinned my hair.
Vitale Life and Body Lye - Underprocessed my hair.
Silk Elements Lye - Burned me up and left me underprocessed.
Affirm Fiberguard no lye - My stylist kept recommending me to go back to no lye because of my sensitive scalp. This is what he used. I don't know, I just didn't like it.
ORS no lye - Very gentle, got hair straight, but hair started breaking a few days later. Me and no lye just don't get along. I should stop switching and just stick with lye.
Creme of Nature lye - I'm about to use this for my next relaxer. We'll see if it's good or not.
As far as self-relaxing, I started with Dark and Lovely, switched to Lusters Smooth Touch, tried Elasta QP twice and then switched to Profectiv, which Ive used for almost 2 years now. All were no-lye relaxers.
for my first 20 some odd years of relaxers i have no idea - i never knew what that salons were doing and i didn't know enough to care... lol
when i started self-relaxing, i used dark n lovely regular... then i switched to parnevu when that came out (the models' hair on the box was sooooooooo pretty!!) and i used that faithfully until i decided to transition... now i use Africa's Best Organics and i loveeeeeeeeee it...
PCJ Relaxer (when I was about 12 years old did my hair pretty good)
Bantu (burned my scalp and eventually hair started breaking off)
Hawaiian Silky (burned my scalp but, got it silky straight)
Revlon (I can't really remember)
Since joining LHCF:
Silk Elements (I liked the result). I will use this relaxer for one year and see how well it does my hair.
I have used
Dark and Lovely
Revlon
Bantu
Mizani
Motions
Cream of Nature
Just for Me
My last relaxer was Affirm at the hairdresser on Friday. I don't know if I will continue with this, because I don't go to the salon regularly.
Just for me...Optimum...Dudley's...Affirm...Design...Motions...Silk Elements...
It's been a rollercoaster but I've never had scalp burns and all of the breakage, etc that people complain about having with relaxed hair. Dudley's was the best I had ever had in terms of hair health, etc, but it's impossible to find out here so I'm planning to texlax with Vitale Mo Body.
When I was relaxed, I used Design Essentials. Then I used PCJ after I wanted to get away from the bone straight look. Both worked great. The only relaxer that I specifically remember not liking was Mizani.
Just for Me
PCJ
Botanicals
Soft n Beautiful
Dr. Miracle
Mizani
Optimum Care
New Mild Optimum Care (the worst of them all it burned my sister and I both)
Phtyo Index I
Of all of them besides Phyto I liked Mizani and the regular Opitmum Care the best.
I started with gentle treatment, tried revlon relaxer which burned, went back to gentle treatment then used N'gone from gueye's then to motions then N'gone then back to motions, I do use N'gone still at times.
dark and lovely
Revlon Both Lye and no lye (and never again!!)
AtOne With Nature No lye
Phyto II
I'm staying with phyto because its the one brand that has never left me with a sore on my scalp or made my hair sahara desert dry. (my hair feels happy using it)
I've used:
Dudley's Lye Mild : Definitely my favorite for silkiness, but processes VERY quickly
Affirm No Lye Hated it, worst thing for my hair ever
Nairobi Lye Mild : Love it, leaves my hair feeling smooth and is really good for letting me texturize uniformly each time. Doesn't process to fast for my hairdresser. Definitely a keeper.
Dark n lovely
