RELAXERS--Detailed Anaylsis/Product Ratings

I found an extremely informative article on relaxers, which rates the different relaxers, their respective PH contents, and ingredients. Apparently, the safest relaxers, according to this article, are Curl Free by Toni, and Rusk Radical -- these however are "texturizers" and should not be used over previously relaxed hair. Of the "lye" relaxers, according to this article, TCB Bone Strait is the least damaging to the hair. KMS Flat Out (PH of 12) is also a brand to check out if you're looking for "safer" relaxers. The article also mentions the Phytospecific Line. The article's link:

When I saw this review on relaxers at first I was so excited. However, they didn't test enough of the popular relaxers IMO. Perhapes they will do this study again with the 'heavy hitters'.

DANG! Relaxers are harsh. Sooooooooooooooo...I'm going to give us relaxed folks some major props for being able to get, keep, and grow healthy hair. Yay us!!!!!!! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes, I would have liked to see some of the ones popular on this board too. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

That was very informative. Thanks for that CynamonKis.

It would have been interesting to find out the Ph levels of popular ones on here such as Affirm & Motions.

I think this report was done a few years ago ('99) which is why some of the more popular ones weren't included.

Motions Oil Relaxer - Mild

After MUCH PRODDING I found out that the PH level of Motions Oil Relaxer - Mild is 11.0.

This is very mild for a relaxer. I know some ladies have stated that it doesn't get their hair straight enough, but I'm wondering if any FINE HAIRED ladies have had good results? Below is my e-mail correspondence w/"Motions":

Hi There!
Motions Oil Moisturizing Relaxer System is a professional brand that dedicates itself to making the hair 300% more moisturized than ever before! It is sodium hydroxide, the best selling chemical form of hair straightener!! The PH level of most all relaxers falls between 10 to 14. Let the best chemist in the world worry about your PH levels - it is so very confusing and we don't have a clue about what any of it really means, anyway! TRUSSSSSST MOTIONS!! It is the largest, most complete brand AND the biggest selling professional brand in the world! Okay?

Re: RELAXERS--Detailed Anaylsis/Prod-UPDATE

Ngaa, I just remember getting on the Motions website & I believe they had a customer service/e-mail link. My understanding is you have to be persistent with these companies to obtain PH info from them...

My favorite little detective! You go on with your curious self...lol!

I have a comment on the ridiculousness of "The Experts" response to you.

1) Mentioning what PH level is of other relaxers was not your question. You wanted to know about Motions.

2) She's telling you to leave the worrying of PH levels to the chemist???!!! /images/graemlins/shocked.gif"Trussst motions"???? /images/graemlins/shocked.gif Was she high when she responded to you? "it is so very confusing and we don't have a clue ...."???? /images/graemlins/shocked.gif /images/graemlins/shocked.gifWhat does that make her an "Expert" of then? The art of B.S.? /images/graemlins/mad.gif

Well, at least she got back to you with the info you asked for but why did she only tell you the PH of the Mild formula?

Ugh! Well, great work, anyway, Girl! Good looking out!

Re: RELAXERS--Detailed Anaylsis/Prod-UPDATE

Tammi my thought re: the "Expert's" initial response was "does she think I am a real bubble-head or something??" But at least she got back to me about the Motions Mild, which is the only one I asked about. I'd be glad to ask her about the others (do you think she'll RESPOND to me??)
