Relaxer won\'t straighten hair!..Is this a problem?

Okay for like the last couple of months I have been using Affirm lye relaxer regular. No matter what my hair will not get straight enough to resemble freshly relaxed hair /images/graemlins/nono.gif it always look 2 weeks old after I finish /images/graemlins/smirk.gif. I don't know what to do about this. I just relaxed my hair 2 weeks ago and there are parts of my hair that feel like 6-8 weeks ago /images/graemlins/perplexed.gif. I remember my hair being like this before but it was a long time ago it stopped and know it's come back this resistant texture what gives /images/graemlins/whyme.gif I don't know what to do because the two very different textures make it very hard to deal with. What am I doing wrong? /images/graemlins/confused.gif

I hair never got straight with a relaxer. The more I relaxed, the puffer it got.....
Maybe you need to switch relaxers....
do you put them in yourself ?

Re: Relaxer won\'t straighten hair!..Is this a problem?

I did it this time /images/graemlins/crazy.gif but the previous time someone else relaxed it for me and there were still parts that were not straight /images/graemlins/smirk.gif.

I use Affirm I thought this was a good relaxer...I don't know any other relaxer to use /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Relaxer won\'t straighten hair!..Is this a problem?

Do you put a lot of products on your hair or scalp to base it before relaxing? That could be blocking the relaxer. Also if you've been taking vitamins or if your eating habits have changed, the pH level of your hair could be affecting the outcome.

Re: Relaxer won\'t straighten hair!..Is this a problem?

I don't know if this will help or not but I like to clarify a few days before my touchup to remove any product buildup that may get in the way of my hair and the relaxer. I also use Affirm. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

So my hormones are messed up huh /images/graemlins/cry3.gif I knew something was up. So what I have to much/little of something?

I do base the scalp with vaseline because I burn fast /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Relaxer won\'t straighten hair!..Is this a problem?

Welcome to the world of texturized hair, LOL. Seriously the same thing happened to me last year after I came out of braids. I honestly think the hair is too healthy to get broken down completely. If you don't like it I would try Dudley's lye regular. I think that would get the texturized/underprocessed parts straight.

Re: Relaxer won\'t straighten hair!..Is this a problem?

I had the EXACT same problem with the Affirm. I had no problem the first time I used it, but later on, it would not get my hair straight.

A few days before I relax my hair, I wash and deep condition, and put NO products in my hair to ensure that the relaxer penetrates the shaft, and not have the oils and stuff in the way. My secret is when I have applied the relaxer all over my head, I use the back of a small tooth comb to smooth the relaxer. Trust me, this works like a charm! /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Relaxer won\'t straighten hair!..Is this a problem?

you could just have strong, resistant hair. (thank your growth oil). when i wore a perm my mom would keep it in forever and it still had some wave in it. (although it did look freshly relaxed.) when i would wear extensions the perm would just revert. thats how i ended up going natural.

Re: Relaxer won\'t straighten hair!..Is this a problem?

Yup my hair is definitely resistant it won't break down /images/graemlins/nono.gif Should I stop braiding it is this the culprit or the oils?. I need to do something because I look natural but I am not /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif Any relaxers for resistant hair? /images/graemlins/confused.gif
