RELAXER SKIN PATCH TESTS?

I have a 4lbs tub of motions lye regular and i am about to go lye for the 1st time in a few days. i am self-applying (no one to do this for me whom i trust not to overlap) for the first time so you can imagine how skeered i am of burns. i had the idea of testing a bit of the relaxer on the back of my hand for the risk of burning and how long it would take before i could feel burning.

the results? well the relaxer feels really really oily (a good sign that it is moisturising). i have tested nolyes on my hand and they more or less feel watery. i left the relaxer on a patch on my hand for 10 whole minutes and felt no burning AT ALL.

could this be a new way of testing relaxers out??? I would be greatful if relaxed heads over here (esp. those who do so at home) could perform this test and post results. Of course be sure to thoroughly rinse your hands with neutralising shampoo.

bump! is anyone willing to experiment? /images/graemlins/smile.gif pretty please /images/graemlins/smile.gif

lol...I already know that it (Revlon Lye - Regular) burns on the skin within 10 minutes because I usually relax my hair without a top on and sometimes I get a drop on my shoulder and it will start tingling, so no need to do a skin patch test. Once I wipe it up with a tissue, it's fine though..

wow, seems pretty potent!

i would be good if people did the test with their relaxers. I want to know if burning on the back of the hand equals burning on the scalp, forhead, shoulders etc. it should be the same i think.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "quite oily", but I think all lye relaxers feel oily. It's the lye in it. I get the same oily and slick, hard to get clean with just water feeling when I am preparing to make soap with lye.

I don't think my hands, forehead, etc are as sensitive to burning as my shoulders, due to them being more exposed to the elements on a day to day basis. I've had a relaxer dribble on them and didn't get the tingle as soon as I got it on my shoulders.

oh i see. mineral oil is the 2nd or 3rd ingredient in motions lye so i assumed that was it. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

i wonder if nolyes have oils in them. probably do but not that much. could be wrong of course. my memory of no lyes was that they were watery. i cant wait to try my motions /images/graemlins/drunk.gif
