There are alot of Relaxer post, but no one has really replied. I am in search of a new relaxer.
I tried Vitale Relaxer, but it wasnt what I expected, I previously used Supreme relaxer but I dont know what exactly I should be looking for in a relaxer, any advice?

Note: I mess with Supreme because it comes two in a box for like 6 dollars, and I am a cheap college student!

Well what are you looking for in a relaxer. I know someone who has used supreme for years with good results. If you want extra conditioning while you relax try Fiberguard or Affirm. If you want straighter sleek hair with incredible shine try Dudley's. If you have fine textured hair and want a delicate perm for your hair then try PCJ. These opinions are only based on my experience, I don't what the other ladies have experienced with these or any others for that matter. All mentioned are mild lye perms.

I haven't tried too many, but I like Motions Lye (MILD) and Precise. Both straighten my hair, no reversion, and no burns or breakage.

I want sumthing that allows me to go longer periods of time not perming without having a lot of breakage so maybe I dont want sumthing that bone straightens. My last perm was vitale, but before that was supreme I might just go back to supreme, because I didnt have to many problems with that

I just used the Motions Oil Moisturizer lye and I do like the results. It processed it bit faster than what I was used to but I have good results. I am gradually growing out some hair that was over processed. I can tell when it is wet that it was over processed. The hair that I have been relaxing with lye is wavy when it is wet and the no lye(over processed and color treated is stick straight) I think that maybe by Christmas I should be at least 3 inches below chin my chin.

I think that is what I need to hear. what exactly is overprocessed hair. vitale left my hair wavy, which I still felt like was a bit strange being that it kinda felt like there is still new growth.

When u have wavy hair and u set it does it come out like you DO have a perm

it's hard to recommend a relaxer not knowing what you're looking for it to do. what didn't you like about the Vitale? why did you switch to it from the Supreme?

i've been relaxing my hair for about 15 years. i used Dark & Lovely No Lye until 11/02, at which time i switched to Affirm Lye. i haven't had a problem with either of them.

i think the main thing is to find one that fits your pocketbook and stick to it. i kind of cringe when i read about people switching from brand to brand to brand...

Addrienne,

when you switched to affirm lye what were the differences that you notice? I have been using Dark and Lovely for around 7 years or more, I used as texturizer but last time my hair became so dry and the breakage was absurd. So I want to switch, please let me know your opinion, especially the factor lye, no-lye.

Thank you

to be honest, i didn't really notice a difference. i never had any problems with the Dark & Lovely, but i was curious about the Affirm because everyone had good things to say about it. i also liked the fact that they have a whole system of products to use with the relaxer. i've had 4 retouches with the Affirm, and my hair is in the same condition that it was with the other. i think the only thing that's different is the fact that it keeps getting lighter and lighter...

Relaxers for Fine Hair

Hi everyone. I am new to this board and just need some quick advice. I have mostly fine 3b hair and receive touch-ups every 3 to 4 months. I've used a Mizani Relaxer for ions (texturizer use only) and recently switched the Affirm perm, but I really haven't seen much improvement/difference. I need to save money and will start to self-relax. Could you name some relaxers that will not harm my hair? Thx!!

I agree. These are two of my favorites, and on two extremes when it comes to price (Dudley's being the expenisive one). I just had a Precise touchup and the results were wonderful. I'll stick with Precise for now - the two containers of no-lye relaxer for $4.99 did the trick for me!

I like African Pride no-lye. I've tried MANY other relaxers (both lye and no-lye) and this is the one that I've liked best so far.

ALUB, I don't mean to hijack your post, but . . .

ADRIENNE -- What do you mean it gets "lighter and lighter"? Is the relaxer changing the color of your hair?
