Relaxer HELP!

Hello ladies :)

I've been learning so much on this board and I have all of you to thank for that. I just have a few questions I need help with...

- Is it ok to use the Keratin 2 Min. reconstructor on my hair right after I've washed my relaxer out and shampooed with neutralizer? (i looked for the answer but found conflicting reports)

- when should i use the Porosity control corrector and conditioner? I read the back and it says to apply to damp hair before a chemical service , leave on for 30 min then rinse....then apply relaxer. I'm not sure about this because I have never and have never seen somebody put relaxer on damp hair(roots)

This will be my first time using both of these products and I want to make sure I get it right. I will be using Silk elements mild lye relaxer. TIA!!!

neutralize first and then do the 2 min con. The neutralizer stops the relaxing procees. Most people use the 2min con right after the relaxer, I know I do! :look: Do a hard protein treatment a week before your relaxer too. Dont ever in you life relax on wet hair! Your hair will fall out. Welcome to LHCF!

Gurl I know i remember a member on here was telling us her friend put relaxer cream on wet hair and all her hair fell out. Do you feel your hair is porous?

I'm pretty sure it is. I don't want to have to pile on products so my hair wont feel dry. It just seems like no matter what I put in it, its dry. I stay on top of it but I thought the Porosity control corrector and conditioner could help

when was the last time you clarified?

I just used ORS creamy aloe shampoo. I know that's not the same as a vinegar rinse but that usually gets my hair squeaky clean.

i do the keritn 2 min right after i wash out the relaxer let it sit for 2 mins and then rinse out and follow with neutralizing shampoo

My two cents:

-Please do NOT wash or wet hair before relaxer -- you are right that wetting hair before relaxer is a big no no :nono:. If you use it before, then it should be at least a week (or the last wash) before relaxing. It is okay to use PC as a DC after relaxing.

-the 2-minute reconstructor can be use immediately after rinsing out the relaxer and before using neutralizing shampoo. This is called a "mid-protein" step to add a little structure right after relaxing when the hair is most vulnerable.

-the porosity control conditioner can be use as a final conditioner after neutralizing

Sooo, the general steps would be: (1) relax and rinse (2) apply 2-minute reconstructor for 5 minutes and rinse (3) neutralizing shampoo and rinse (4) porosity control for at least 30 minutes and rinse.

HTH.

Bumping for a quick question

Any Silk Elements users who are 4a/b who have had success with their Mild lye relaxer? wondering if I need to upgrade to Regular. I want to get my hair pretty straight but not bone limp straight. TIA!

Hi, I don't know much about porosity control but I really like the Aphogee 2 min. reconstructor. This is what I do:
1) relax
2) rinse out relaxer
3) condition with Motions Oil Moisturizer Silk Protein for 10 min.
4) rinse
5) neutralize with Motions Oils Moisturizer Neutralizing poo at least 2 times
6) rinse
7) Deep con with the Aphogee and a moisturizing con
or ORS replenishing pak and a moisturizing con
8) rinse
9) apply leave-ins

I personally would do the 2 min reconstructor after rinsing the relaxer and before neutralizing. IMO, it is more effective this way because the cuticles are lifted and will penetrate the conditioner more efficiently. Also, keep in mind that considering the pH of the reconstructor, it also helps with the neutralizing process. Without fail, every time I apply my neutralizing shampoo after rinsing my reconstructor, the shampoo suds are white and barely any traces of pink. I still follow up with neutralizing 3 times (5 mins each time) but I believe that the reconstructor plays a significant role in the neutralizing process.

I remember a member using the pc as a protectant for her hair before the relaxer was applied to prevent overlapping(I just can't think of the member's name right now). I am doing a corrective in December and had planned on doing this b/c my hair is somewhat porus. However, I like the idea of what Neroli shared:

""the general steps would be: (1) relax and rinse (2) apply 2-minute reconstructor for 5 minutes and rinse (3) neutralizing shampoo and rinse (4) porosity control for at least 30 minutes and rinse"

and will do that instead.

That sounds like what I plan to do today. I'm still having some trouble with what strength relaxer to use. SE lye mild or regular. i'm 4a/b and regular seems like the way to go for my course hair but I have read on the forum about some people getting good results with mild. I just don't want to be under processed. no telexed for me right now with this short hair cut i'm growing out:nono:

Yessss I took my kinky twist out. I know I know :( I just couldn't do it!!!
I felt like I had spiders crawling on my face lol. I usually get mircos that I can pull up into a bun but this time was different. The back of my hair was short so i needed something that should hang down and cover it so I got short kinkies. I liked them but they were too short and thick to pull back. i got so irritated with them thangs hanging all over me! plus I got paranoid about my edges :( they were fine :)

It's been 8 1/2 weeks since my last relaxer so that's a record for me(except when I was natural). with this short haircut, I was slapping perm in every time I saw any type of curl in my head lol.

lol, well thats wassup. i just took my sew-in weave out this past week (been in for 5 1/2 weeks), then did a protein treatment, and then relaxed it within this past week.. (which completed my 12 week stretch). Girl, my hair grew, and i even moved up to the next roller size. :yep:. But thats good girl that u are stretching longer than before. keep it up.
as for me, with my hair being short in the back (similar to u), i just cornrowed it for the weave. and now that it's grown a little more, the cornrow will definitely be even more secure when i install my next weave. YAY. We are making progress.

Would you do the deep condition after the porosity control?

I completely understand. I was reading somewhere on here and BHM that mild should be used by people with fine and/or color treated hair. When I would go to the salon, I believe the stylist used super b/c my hair broke off something fierce. My hair is course too and I plan on using the regular formula(my choices are between AE & SE). Are you looking at using this one:
http://www.sallybeauty.com/Silk-Elements-Relaxer/SILKEL28,default,pd.html

for your relaxer? I remember reading from sareca and others about SE being known to underprocess. But for the most part, I have seen rave reviews about the SE mild one. EWilliams here uses it and her hair is BEAUTFIUL!

Let me know which one you go with b/c I am getting a corrective done in Dec at the end of my 12 week stretch if I don't get braids instead.

So I'm sitting under the dryer now. I used SE lye regular but I didn't leave it on long AT ALL. so I guess you could say i'm about 80 or 75% relaxed. to tell you the truth I actually like not being BONE straight. I think my hair will thank me in the long run. I used a black rinse as well. I followed all the steps so once I flat iron, i'll post pics. Thanks for your help ladies. (think it grew a little bit)

Here are some pics like I promised. I know it's not much but considering where I've come from I don't think i'm doing too bad :) :sigh: I'll be a long haired diva one day :)

SLOWLY making progress :look:

ok.... I know people do product reviews on this sight all the time.. but I can honestly say that this is my FIRST ;-)

I am in LOVE with SE lye relaxer. I have been using ORS no lye/Dark and lovely no lye regular for years now and this is the first time I used lye relaxer. I thought long and hard about my choice and decided to go with SE lye regular( self relaxed). I can honestly say that with those other relaxers, my hair would be soooo dry after the next day :( no matter what I put in it, just bone dry. So a few days after self relaxing I'm sitting here feeling my hair now and it is sooo BUTTER SOFT! I can't ever remember my hair feeling like this after a relaxer. Thanks to the ladies of LHCF for steering me in the right direction!

Oh I am officially in LOVE with the Aphogee line and the 2 min. re-constructor. I really feel like i found what my hair likes now after all this time and money!
