Hey,

I am new and lurking. I am looking to relax in a few months (i am 9 months post)

My edges have suffered a little from two different braidings so I want to give my hairline a little time to fatten up before I relax.

I have surge--is this any good for edges? What about WGO, M-T-G for edges.

But my main question...

WHAT RELAXER do you think is best? I tried doing a search and a lot of the posts end up going off topic. So if you would give me a few suggestions. Better yet, tell me what you DON'T recommend!

my thoughts so far are

Salerm
ORS
Gentle Treatment
Motions ( i was using this before, but my severe PJism causes me to stray)

TIA ladies :D

relaxer-wise, i used to love Parnevu Tea-Tree when i was relaxing bone straight... now i really like Organics by Africa's Best... it has a lot of natural oils infused into the relaxer itself, comes with a great hair mayonnaise and moisturizer for use after the relaxer, and was so super gentle... i didn't even base (big no-no i know) throughout the majority of my head and i've no burns, discomfort or anything... my best friend used to swear by Botanicals...

other than that, i've had dark n' lovely (not my favorite - wouldn't recommend) and profectiv (surprisingly gentle but the products left my hair greasy)...

HTH

Profectiv is great. I use the regular. Alsom I recently tried their Relax and Revive one to color rinse my hair after it got sun bleached in Jamaica. It was great, as well.

My stylist uses Affirm mild on my hair, and so far it's doing great. I've heard it's a pretty good relaxer. I'm not sure if they sell them to the general public in beauty stores or if it's strictly a "salon" product.

My first relaxer was Gentle treatment, I thought it made my hair really thin but that was when I was 16 and they may have change the product a little since then, then Motions- Hated it actually there whole line was crap IMO, TCB Bone straight was always good to me if you like your hair bone straight, but I'm 11wks post waiting to try Organics by Africas Best it has alot of goodies in it I'll get bak to you about it in another 5 wks if that's not to late, LoL, and let me know about that salerm incase the organics don't go through, Oh yeah alot of pple like Vitale I've seen good results in ppl photo albums.

 For Affirm Relaxers! You can get them online at Irby's beauty supply or Sheldez.com .

Affirm Mild---was my very first relaxer it did good on my hair..but i tried it a couple a months back because i ordered it from Sheldez and may hair was so very dry...i used it on my sisters hair that is below her shoulders and it did great and she has very thick and croase hair...

Profectiv---i didnt use it that much but it did get my hair straight

African Pride Childrens relaxer
PCJ
Just for Me---all these were good

Motions- was okay

Soft n Beautiful---was good

actually i dont think i could even participate in this one because most of all the relaxers ive used because of the type of hair that i have works great on my hair..and i dont even need to keep it on long and my hair is straight...

ORS Relaxer--was good

TCB Natural---buyer beware...my hair had just came out of braids and i worked so hard to get it so nice and it was in the perfect bob without any cutting...i had a friend of mine apply it so it could be just perfect and the next thing i noticed was my hair was coming out... :( so i declared from there i try to stay away from anything that says by TCB...and im sometimes try to stay away from changing and using different relaxers...
I'm thinking of trying Phytorelaxer if i decide to go back and start relaxing again

Most of the relaxers I've tried have worked for me...

Soft & Beautiful: This works well for me

Dark & Lovely: Used once and never again...did not straighten my hair well

Pink Oil Moisturizer: It would get my hair bone straight but it did not last long. Maybe 3 weeks at best.

Optimum Relaxer: This is what I use now...I love it.

Thank you all.

So far Affirm and Profectiv are running close. I will search their ingredients

I am researching Phyto & I am drawn to ORS because of the Oilve Oil treatment.

I should ask more stylist what she was using in my hair before I requested Motions. Well, thanks again. I guess another good question to ask is what hair type you have. I guess, in the end they all work good.

This is what being a PJ will do to you, it's like crack, have you up late at night crouched over the computer researching, spending alllllllllll your money.

Thanks again for your responses

Now that's a :naughty: , never apply a relaxer after taking out braids, to much stress on the hair at one time.

Yeah...you should wait at least a week before your relax your hair after you remove braids.

Hair is dry after braids are taken out. Oil,moisturize, oil, moisturize for the next 5 days after braids

for some reason my hair still does very well with relaxing right after braids..and i was able to grow it to shoulder length by just starting a routine of braiding and then relaxing after removing them and then going back and brading right after i did this for an entire year and half...never had anykind of issues with my hair breaking...

I just finished relaxing with Vitale sensitive scalp relaxer. It is a lye relaxer and it left my hair feeling very nice. This will be my regular relaxer from now on.

Is this the mo body sensitive one?

I love the vitale life and body.

Yes, it is that one. I could actually rotate the life and body with the one I used today. Girl, my hair is swinging. I wish I had a digicam so I could post results of my growing process.

I see that no one posted revlon realistic extra conditioning. I know sweetnic_ja didn't like it. Does anyone else think it's bad?

I didn't like it either. Left my hair underprocessed and frizzy.

Oh my goodness... 2 pages of posts and not 1 person representing Mizani!!! How dare you ladies!!! No but seriously I'd highly recommend mizani regular lye. Let's face it...all relaxers straighten the hair just fine. no lye not as straight as lye but they all contain the same straightening ingredients and they all straighten the same. But how does your hair do after the relaxer? For me, my hair does not shed and it is ultra shiny after a mizani. And its straight for at least 8 weeks (as long as i don't do an aphogee trtmnt). my hair does alot of shedding for a few weeks after using a no-lye which is why i chickened out of using my phyto relaxer i just bought. I get consistent results with mizani and i'll use it forever.
