Relaxer Appt at Luisa's

Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

I made an appointment to get my relaxer done on next Saturday. Problem is, I asked for Luisa but she's on vacation. I really, really need to get my hair done so I just went ahead and booked the appointment. I know everyone says that all the stylists there are good, but I'm a little paranoid. I'm going out on a limb here by committing to an appointment with someone with whom I have no references. Anyway, her name is Gweneth. I asked her lots of questions and let her know that I was very picky about procedures, overlapping and just when it comes to my hair in general. In other words, if I'm burning, I'll get up and go to the sink myself. Anyway, she sounded really nice and totally understood my point. She said, after all, your styilst is like your doctor, so you should be picky. We'll see how things go and I will be back to post my results. If my hair looks really good, I'll post some pics.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

Can't wait to see those pics.

She sounds sincere. That comment about a stylist being like a doctor is so on point.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

JoeEmerald, my appt is this coming Saturday. I'll be sure and post an update.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

I've never had a relaxer touch-up done at Luisa's Salon, but I've had several roller sets done there. I've seen Luisa do a relaxer touch-up, and she did a very good job. She was careful with not overlapping and all. I'm sure the other stylists are good at relaxer touch-ups too. They can get very crowded on Saturdays (even for the folks that have appointments). When you walk in the door, go to to counter and sign in. They usually have a line outside the door on Saturday morning. Try and get there EARLY.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

Is Luisa's open? The building where Luisa's is located caught on fire over the weekend. The Carolina Kitchen restaurant burned down

. However, Luisa's is located on the corner so maybe it wasn't affected.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

Yes, Luisa's is open at a different location due to the fire. The address is:

8480 Piney Branch Road
Silver Spring, MD

This is about 6 minutes from the old location. The phone number is the same (301-565-4624). There's a note on the door at the old location if anyone needs directions. HTH.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

Oh no, When is the old location going to open back up allandra?

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

It will be utter chaos until they get back to there shop, that address it the address to her sister's shop, and its only 3 sink bowls in there.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

Shoot, I can't believe there was a fire over there...my Future Mother In Law had planned on going there on Friday for a doobie & I'm going there next Fri. so my hair will look cute for graduation (12-21-03)

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

OMG!! I had no idea. Allandra, thanks for the new address. That will help me out. I'll call on Friday to confirm. My appointment is with Gwenneth. I told her I wanted the first appointment they had on saturday. She booked me for 8:30. Trust me, I'm not one for sitting in a hair salon for hours on end

I'm not sure.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

Whoaaaaa, if Luisa's clientele is going over to Jaselvis' (the Piney Branch Road location), that is gonna be craaaaaaaaaaazy. Armyqt, you should probaby try to get there early so they don't try to bump you.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

She better not try and bump me. I wondering why the hell she hasn't called me to let me know what's going on. I cannot have no drama on Saturday. My hubby's coming back and I want my hurr to be on point

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

I know that's right - go on and look good for your man.

If that's the case, just have a backup appointment somewhere else...better safe than sorry

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

I just called to confirm the appt and get directions. So I guess I'm good to go. I'm really excited!

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

Well I just got back from my hair appointment. I must say that I'm not impressed at all with the services. I don't like the way everything is done so mechanically with little communication with the client. It was like a factory. Heads in, heads out.

Before I got my relaxer I had a chance to see her put another in. She started around the edges yall
shocked.gif
. Before she started my hair I asked not to do that cause I will burn. She seemed quite perturbed but respected my wishes. Now this is where I really got upset. This woman put the relaxer all the way down to the ends of my hair. And I didn't realize she had done this in the back, until i saw her doing it in hte front. By this time there was no point in asking her to stop. I felt very uncomfortable when making a request. I felt like that started talking about me. All the ladies in there just go there and sit down and don't say a word.

And the blowout. I would never, ever get one of those done. My hair's too fragile. (She did suggest it though). Smoke was everywhere in that shop. People's hair was frying all over the place. I have to admit that everyone's hair was swanging and looking good, but I think I'll pass on that one.

Another thing that peeved me off is how they use the small comb for everything. They don't detangle your hair at all. I saw one customer come in with a long beautiful head of hair to get a relaxer. Well my stylist picked up a little comb and literally ripped through her hair. And had the nerve to suggest to the client it was becuase of something she was doing wrong why her her was "breaking". I was in utter disbelief.

Needless to say I won't be posting any pics today. My hair looks limp. I think it's overprocessed. I always seem to strike out every time I go to a stylist. probably another setback. Oh well. That's my review.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

Oh I'm sorry ArmyQT, what was the name of the stylist that did your hair? Luisa started my relaxer in the middle of my head where I have the most newgrowth. I know it was probably also hectic because they're sharing the space with another salon.

I'm sorry you didn't like it.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

Wow I am sorry for you. Unfortunately this has almost always been my experience too. I think people with coarse hair strands can handle the small comb and combing relaxer through and blow dry but my fragile hair absolutely cannot.

I would have loved that. The salons I've been to were always too noisy.

I definitely would not have loved that.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

I was thinking that I was the only one that does not not have a thing for Dominican salons. Ive been to Jaselvis a few nonths ago and the service is sloppy. The lack of communication really bothers me, or maybe its because they barely speak English. They do everything in such a hurry, cause they really dont give a darn about you hair. I was so hurt when I walked out the door, I felt like everyone just stomped all over me. And to make matters worse, I didnt even like my hair. They really need to work on speaking to their clientele.

Ditto to the above. My friends with course 3a/b hair use blowdryers w/comb attachments after they wash their hair and don't suffer ill effects.

ArmyQT, I'm sorry you couldn't get the stylist Allandra patronizes. The salon atmosphere probably was not normal because the stylists and clients were moved due to the fire. This might now have been a representative Saturday at Luisa's.

Communication with my stylist in a comfortable setting is important, especially during a chemical service. It builds trust.

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

First off, I want to say I am soooo sorry this happened to you ArmyQT! This just makes me sooo sad bc I know what its like to feel helpless to a stylist.
*wiping away tear* Now- Do you want me to yank her?! Sometimes you have to GG (Go Ghetto)!

Re: Relaxer Appt at Luisa\'s

I'm sorry you had to go through that, Armyqt. Do you have a plan for what you'll do or where you'll go when you get another touch-up?

The last two times I've gone to Luisa's Salon, Maribel did my roller set and blow out (roots only). She was gentle with my hair. The two times before that, Claudine (who is no longer there) did my roller set and blow out (roots only). She was gentle with my hair as well. I've never received a relaxer touch-up at Luisa's Salon though. However, I've seen Luisa do a couple. I agree with megonw regarding the salon atmosphere probably not being normal since the salon had to move due to the fire.
