Relaxed Wash and Goers

I have my latest wash n' go pic in my signature. I used Pantene curling mousse, then I used a Sedal Hidraloeleavein conditioner that I bought in Dominican Republic but I know I can find it here in NJ. Then I sprayed my hair with the wonder 8 oil spray. My hair loves and needs oil for a good wash n' go. If I don't have the Sedal leave in I will take a conditioner and add oil oil to it. To get the best curls I have to plop with a t-shirt. Sometimes I blow dry a little on cool.

How do you plop with a t-shirt?

Your hair looks good, Tetbelle. Maybe I should try plopping. My hair ends up looking stringy and like I have a jherri curl or something.

I posted my wash and go routine recently. You should do a search. The only thing I've changed is that I've added Garnier Fructis Curl & Shine Leave-In Conditioning Cream. I really like it. It moisturizes and defines my curls well.

I can't maintain my wash and go at all. It is a one day only type of thing for me.

My hair is relaxed to straight to do a decent wash and go which is why I'm going texlaxed from now on.

Plopping is when you twist a towel or a t-shirt around your head to give your hair the "scrunch" effect. It really works

I love my wash and go for weekends. I found this new product Nioxin Reflective Smoothing Gel that leaves my hair so soft and flowy.

But I believe the best wash and go is to just braid your hair the night before and let the rest air dry through the morning using these same products. Good luck perfecting your skills

I just did my FIRST ever wash n go (if you don't count my Army days when it was all up under my hat). I used Cantu Shea Butter Moisterizing Leave In (alot!) along with some Ouidad gel mixed with Elucence serum.

My friends at work were shocked that my hair is so curly and they complimented me on it.

I think I''ll continue to do it during the hot weather. I'm going to try to find a product that "stretches" the curls out a bit more, but for now I am periodically misting with Dove Leave In Repleneshing Mist. (I'm also going to re-wet it entirely prior to leaving work b/c the heat index is 110 and the T station is MURDER when it's hot!!!)

If anyone can suggest a relatively cheap product that will stretch the curls out more, please let me know!

TIA!

Thank you. Actually I take that back, I scrunch with a t-shirt. Next time I will try plopping with a t-shirt to see which method comes out better. My wash n' go only last one day then I have to do it all over again.

You can still do it scrunch scrunch scrunch that is the key. One of the girls I was on vacation with had bone straight relaxed hair and I got it to get some curl definition she was so happy.

Thanks! I'd love to actuallly have it work cause I am tiring of the E-RY day bun!

I do wash n go. I think I still have pics in my photo album.
I wash, apply leave in and a gel mixed with a frizz serum. I alternate between using a diffuser on cool to get the curls to form to scrunching with a towel. If I have a lot of new growth I wrap my edges so they dry smooth.

Are you saying that you braid your hair while it's wet with these products in it and THEN let it air dry or put the products in it AFTER the braids have drived?

I tried the plopping this morning... :whip: I got a Wash n O'Heck NO! I'll keep at it though...;)

Haha..this happened to me years ago when I tried to copy Michael Michelles hair. Nevermind that our hair types were totally different..lol and I'm relaxed.
I looked like a complete fool..wondering why my hair didn't curl right up after plopping like she said in Hair sophisticate.

Can someone please provide detailed instructions on exactly how to "Plop"?? I'd love to try that sometime... Thanks! :)

I tried plopping this morning and it didn't work. Maybe I didn't leave the t shirt on my head long enough. I'm rocking a slightly wavy bush as a result. I will keep trying until I get this right!

I would have been in a similar boat, but the new growth (about 1.5 inches) just puffed up to a fro with stringy trying really hard to be wavy ends. It wasn't pretty. :perplexed

I don't think any amount of time with the towel/shirt on my head would get the afro-puff close to the scalp under control. The ends yes, the new growth... :nono:

You guys I'm sorry.... I scrunch I don't plop. Scrunch and more scrunch it works. I scrunch with a t-shirt instead of a towel (towel tends to frizz my hair) I get better curls that way. Also the products I use must have a lot of oil in it and I add extra oil too. I updated my pic with a better pic of the curl definition. Please don't look at my sweaty face it was 100 degrees that day.

It's funny how things come back to haunt you...I usually chuckle at the threads where you have that ONE person who, no matter how many ways you explain it, they just don't .

Well...:look:... in this thread, I guess it's ME!!

Tetbelle, thank you so much for your patience, it's really appreciated. But I I'm still confused...do you use the shirt to scrunch your hair, like you would use your hands only you use the shirt to grab the extra moisture and 'clump' the hair together? :look:

I braid my hair when it is wet and use the curl defining products in the morning when I wake to give it more definition depending on how wet my hair still is in the morning.

But honestly just braiding the hair the night before with plain ol grease and water gives a great wash and go style. Just try it out and see

Now that doesn't sound half bad except I'm afraid my hair would go 'POOF!' if I put a water based product on it and leave it to dry on it's own.

I've done something similar when I've taken down cornrows but only it was conditioner to moisturize my hair before a CO Wash. :scratchch But thinking about it, I do remember commenting to myself that it would be nice if it stayed that way, so maybe I just need to not mess it up so much when putting the product(s) in it, texture was pretty ...

The oil that seems to work best for my hair is the Dabur Amla, anything weighs by hair down something fierce... I will try with that and then with the Qhemets Amla & Olive Oil Heavy Cream.

I shall in the next few day and report back, thank you!

What products do you use?

How long does the style last, and what do you do to maintain it?

I wash and condition (using Kenra now)
Apply salerm 21 or rusk sensories leave in
Apply serum (I use Philosophy)
Apply Aveda's Be Curly with a bit of their humectant palmade

The Aveda Be Curly is key for my wash and go. It gives me curl better than anything. I then use a water/humectress mixture and spray my hair throught the day.

At night I make a few twists and then re-apply be curly and the spray the next morning. I can go three days with this, but the first two look the best. Usually by the third my hair is a bit dry.

Thanks for your reply. I just have a few questions for you, lol.

What is your hairtype?
Do you scrunch the products in your hair or do you just let it airdry naturally?
Got pics?

No problem....Yes that is exactly what I do. I apply the mousse and then the leave in conditioner and then I scrunch with the t-shirt. Head leaned foward and scrunch up towards my scalp.

Aha!!! Light shines through yander window!! Thank you for the clarification! I have a few methods to try in the upcoming week!

You ladies really are the best! :rosebud:
