SOMETIMES I GET THE FEELING FROM OTHERS THAT RELAXED HAIR =SELLOUT. LOT'S OF WOMEN LIKE TO HAVE DIFFERENT STYLES, SOMETIMES STRAIT, SOMETIMES CURLY. BUT IF ONE RELAXES THERE "OWN HAIR "TO MAKE IT EASIER TO MANAGE, SOME INDIVIDUALS WOULD IMPLY THAT IT IS NO LONGER REAL HAIR BECAUSE IT'S NOT IN ITS NATURAL STATE, EVEN THOUGH ITS STILL YOUR OWN HAIR ON YOUR HEAD GROWING AND THRIVING FROM YOUR SCALP.

DOES ANYONE ELSE EVER GET THAT FEELING? JUST CURIOUS:look:

I don't get that feeling. Well not here, anyways. there are other sites where one does get that vibe, but the mission of those sites is different.

I hope you are not getting that feeling HERE (LHCF). Girl, this ain't Nappiturality.com! :) (sorry) Here at LHCF, we embrace ALL ladies.

I don't agree with some of the points in the OP. But, I don't consider women that relax their hair sell outs. Unless you are perpetuating negative stereotypes like BLACK PEOPLE NEED to relax their hair. I also don't agree with the easier to manage clause. I once was relaxed and it was just a difficult as taking care of natural hair. Actually I would like to say its as difficult as you make it.

I personally really like nappturality.com. The site is specially for natural people so I guess one wouldn't feel comfortable as a relaxed person on a site made for natural people.

But, we only live life once so I say do what makes YOU happy. Cause you came here by yourself and you will leave by yourself.

Great response.

For some reason this makes me want to go natural just prove a buch of people wrong or to go against the grain or something.

Anyways I hate the idea that I NEED a relaxer or anything else. I hate that white people would think that I am comforming to their world or something.

IDK...

And to those I would say, "Whatever!" and keep it moving.

Relaxing your hair is a hair styling choice, not a 'sell-out', unless it is seen as a necessity, as TrustMeLove pointed out.

Personally, I believe that it depends on the person, if they want to go natural or not. Moreover, I am the type of person who can go either way. Who is to say after I grow my relaxed hair pass bra-strap I will just cut it all off and go natural for years, and then relax it again? Either way, we have to learn to take care of our hair. I been relaxed all my life and it’s only just one year ago I learned how to take proper care of my relaxed hair. If I went natural, it would take the same amount of effort at first to learn how to take care of it. My 2cents….)

It's about to be a WHAT? :fishslap: GIRLFIGHT

Seriously though, have you seen the comments THEY make? We just call em' out by name over here, they're a little more discreet and just say "those poor unenlightened self hating souls on another hair board" I know who they talkin bout'. Alot of us frequent both boards so it's all love, but truth is truth. And how would they know what we say anyway if they wasn't up in hur?

From the responses I've read about that site it seems they are stern about being natural. But for me I'm relaxed and can wash and DC once a wk, as a pose to CW everyday just to keep my hair moisturized or spritzing twice a day, to me being natural was very time consumming and a hard press (b4 maxiglide was invented) was the only way to go, or keep your hair braided, my mom use to literally make me sleep under the AC especially if it was the day b4 graduation or major event, lol, so being relaxed is simple for me. In the end weather natural or relaxed you have to do what allows your hair to stay healthy and thriving. Don't worry about others, just do you, cause someone will always have something negative to say no matter how you care for your hair. ;)

I say to each her own. I'm relaxed and happy. I know what you all mean though... I've been up in Nappturality a few times and the vibe toward relaxed heads is not too cool. Again, to each her own.

*just the opinion of a creamy crackhead*

I don't get the permie vs natural feeling on this board, that's why LHCF is home. But to address the title of this thread, I whip my maxiglide out whenever I feel the itch to relax. To me that lovely tool has cured any desire i have to ever perm again.

that's an interesting take on things. i've never experienced this before. the closest thing was accusations that i had weave in my hair when i didn't.

i've never experienced such a strong stance on having "natural" hair. in my opinion everyone puts "something" in their hair to either condition it or make it more manageable :look:

Girl, is that a rule on their board for real???

It really is... I was like WHOA, I guess my relaxed behind won't be posting here! Not everyone is like that, but it does have a cult-ish feel. This is why I love LHCF. We have all kinds of heads giving all kinds of advice. Even if I am relaxed, I can benefit from the advice of natural ladies, and I think they can benefit from relaxed ladies. Like hottopic said, we're ALL black women... We have bigger battles to fight...

THANK'S FOR RESPONDING LADIES. REGARDING HAIRBOARDS, I HAVE ONLY BEEN A PART OF/KNOWN OF LHCF. REGARDING THE TOPIC AT HAND, IT'S NOTHING I LOOSE SLEEP OVER, TRUST ME! I ENJOY HAVING SO MANY LOOK'S, AND RELAXING MAKES IT EASIER FOR ME TO OBTAIN.

I WAS LOOKING ON CURVE SALON WEBSITE AND SAW SOME GORGEOUS STYLES WITH NATURAL HAIR. I HAVE ACHEIVED SIMILAR STYLES BY STRAWSETTING OR TWIST. ONE LADY IN PARTICULAR HAD GOLDISH/BLONDE HIGHTLIGHT'S. SO THEN I WONDERED, IS HER HAIR STILL CONSIDERED NATURAL SINCE THE COLOR HAD BEEN CHANGED WITH CHEMICALS? I WOULD ANSWER YES, SO THAT'S WHEN I REALLY STARTING PONDERING WHY WOULD AN INDIVIDUAL FEEL LIKE RELAXED HAIR IS NOT REAL. JUST WONDERING, THAT'S WHEN I DECIDED TO POST MY THOUGHTS ON THIS, BUT I DON'T WANT IT TO GET HEATED, IT'S NOT THAT SERIOUS:D

BTW, I HOPE NO ONE GET'S OFFENDED BY THIS THREAD OR BY REPLY'S MADE. MY INTENTION WAS JUST TO SHARE AND ALSO GET SOME INSIGHT. THANKS LADIES

Not to single you out because this is not the first time I saw this but why does every negative feeling someone has about this site have to be geared towards Nappturality? I understand alot of people on here dont like thier views but its a view.... an opinion and I just hate to see other sistahs bashing other sistah sites.

Back to the OP I think all around some people get offended when peopel say certain things. As above I get offended when people attack things I believe in like supporting natural hair. If you believe in relaxing and stand firm on that you will not liek it if someone bashes relaxing. Some people think that maxiglide promoters encourage an anti-relaxer movement (Ive seen it) and therefore can come off in a negative way.

In my opinion hair isnt natural unless its without chemical prcessing be it color or relaxers. But thats just my opinion. I think its cool to have your own beliefs about stuff. Do what you feel is right for you but dont go out making blanket statements without knowing the true story.

I do not back Nappturality 100% because alot of thier views I dont believe in but Im not tryign to get into that. Back to your comment. "Natural" when used by peopel on hai rboards usually refers to if the hair the person has is thiers and grows out of thier head that way. It has not been chemically altered or added to. You'd eb upset too if someone went around talkign about "thier" hair and it really belongs to someone else  Although it is natural hair and belongs to them we wouldnt classify a human hair weave as natural. Get my drift?

Nuffin wrong with doing what you feel though :) Whether it be relaxer, texturizer, Monistat, horse grease, or vitamins :)

A creamy crackhead is someone addicted to relaxing thier hair. Hell Im a braid crackhead and a scissor crackhead. Not to mention Ive been a longtime product junkie.

Its just words people no need to get upset. We use them to describe ourselves thruout all hair boards.

LHCF is good. There have been times where I felt defensive when I see sly things people would say on the board against relaxed heads, and it does at times seem "pressure" to become natural but thats life and for the most part LHCF is a great place that embraces all.

Yeah I know what you mean sometimes I feel pressured to relax. Phyto this and Affirm that and Mizani there. Its a trip! But we have to realize that this board is not just for any particular group but for us all to seek help without feeling ostracized. There's a place for everyone here and thats why I like it.

Trust me girl I am not upset. I thought it was funny.....:lachen: LMAO. I tend not to take the hair bashing too seriously, because like I said before...."Nappy or Straight we are all Black." We got other problems than to trying to convert somebody's hair...I love healthy hair period. Yep, even on other races. If a style looks cute, It looks cute. No more no less.
**Great thread**
