Relaxed ladies - do you still...

... Have to worry about the weather?

I want to get a less worry-free hair routine for college. (I'm a natural who flat irons.) I'm thinking locks or relaxer. I would prefer to get a relaxer but not if I have to worry about heat, rain, etc.

I'm in Louisiana and the humidity here sucks. If it's humid it's frizz city for me. That's about the only problem i got though.

It really depends on how you wear your hair, I think. If I'm wearing a bun, pony tail, or a hair piece, I really don't pay any attention to my hair's reaction to the weather. But, if I roller set or wear my hair out, I do have to be conscious about what the weather is for the day.

However, how you feel about your hair's appearance when weather gets to it is more important than how it actually looks. I definitely have a "whatever" mentality about my hair styles, so I usually don’t care if my hair gets flat, frizzy, or poofy during the day. I look in the mirror and say "Whatever. It looked good when I left the house and that's all that matters."

But, if I'm really unhappy with it (like it keeps getting in my eyes or it's soaking wet because I forgot an umbrella), I just throw on a half-wig, phony pony, or pin it up and keep steppin'.

Relaxing is not a cure for bad-weather-hair days. I don’t think any style is. Heck, even type 1 and 2 hair is affected by weather. It's really how you feel about your hair and how you style it that makes weather effects on the hair a positive or a negative experience. HTH! :)

The weather changes here a lot in VA. We really do experience all 4 seasons here whcih is much different from my upbringing in Upstate NY.

This is how I adjust

Rainy weather - buns or any protective style
Humid weather - a braidout or twistout. I use a product called anti poof by sunsilk that works wonders. I also have hused anti humidity sprays.
Summer - I don't relax in the summer and I use a minimal amount of heat. I wear wash n go's and braidouts.
Winter - I wear protective styles, or I get it straightened by a professional and I wrap it at night. I wait until I get to work to unwrap it.

I may be biased but I feel that if you have a good hair cut, even when it is humid and the curls fall, your style still looks good.

This is a great breakdown! :yep: Styling for the weather saves a lot of trouble.
