Relaxed Heads - Touch Up Time? Or Just My Hair?

Guys do you find when you are on those last few weeks before a touch up (like the last 2 or 3) that your hair becomes really unruly? I mean it just doesn't rollerset right, it seems to do it won thing all the time and a little drier and more unhappy than usual?

I ask because I've been having serious manageability issues lately and I notice I have this problem when my hair wants a relaxer - or, at least, I think that there's a correlation but I'm not sure.

I think once I realx everything goes back to normal....but I seem to notice a pattern that whenever I need a touch up I always feel like my ends need cutting, my color's all wrong and the shape of my hair sucks and MAJOR CHANGES MUST BE MADE...NOW!

LOL! Is this me bugging out or do you think I should really re-evaulate? I'd post a picture but I can't afford to develop pics right now....LOL!

I can only vouch for the rollar setting thing which I find doesn't come out as nice when I need a touch up.

Lately I"ve been going to the salon to do rollarsets as they're the only ones who'll get the hair looking straight for me. When I attempt it my hair comes out so fat in the roots. When I have a centre parting my hair looks like the giant golden arches of McDonalds. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I'm sure in the last 2 weeks before I get my touch up, I'll just do conditioner washes and let it airdry, wearing it pinned up. (Oh and try using lanza straight line before my last rollar sets). No point in 'fighting.' /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Boy, do I know what you mean. I just on week 5 and this last wash was a mess. It looks dry and uneven (I had it trimmed with my last re-touch) and each hair strand wants to go different ways. My goal is to relax every 12 wks but I can barely make 6wks. I get depressed when my hair is like this, it's like why am I doing all this extra work (daily conditioning, essential oils, washing 2xweek) if this is how my hair is going to look after 4 weeks. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hi Tracy,

It's not just you. I find my hair is difficult to deal with too before the retouch. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Honey, it's not in your mind at all. It could possibly be touchup time. My hair goes through some mad crazy cycles at that point when the new growth is present. The wholeof my head feels and reacts different to the products I always use. Dryness, the need for a trim (which I don't) and basically being unruly in general yes yes yes, I can empathize totally. And then when I get the touch up it's as if it all goes back to normal and I was worrying for nothing.

So now I'm at that stage again, I know it's just the new growth and nothing too much to worry about. i just make sure that the moisture is present that bit more than ususal.

It happens to me too so don't worry. I have decided to relax my hair to my normal straightness instead of trying to lightly relaxing like some people on this board for that one reason. My hair always gets hard to handle and having three textures instead of two is even harder on my hair and it breaks even more. If you are noticing more hair in your comb and lots of dryness go ahead and relax. I have a friend who gets her hair relaxed every six weeks and she has longggggg hair. She does the aphogee treatments every 8 weeks to keep it strong and she has no see through ends. I am sure your hair will be fine since I think you spend more time taking care of your hair than almost anyone on theis board. Let us know what you decide. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Merry Christmas!!!

No it's not in your mind. When my hair is getting due, it doesn't act right either. until I get around to touching it up I do straw sets and where it in ponytails.

Okay then thank you all! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

See - I love this board. Where else on earth could I ask such a kooky question and get such serious, well thought out and sincere responses. LOL!

I know that I should relax when I see breakage - and I usually get to 12 weeks or thereabouts fine by just doing the same as BRH and F2B - pontails and airdrying curly. But it's been cold in NYC and I've been in a hurry more than usual so I haven't had the leisure time to sit and wait for my hair to airdry before leaving the house. And rollersets feel like a waste cause they just come out looking NUTS! No amount of wrapping or oiling or seruming or ANYTHING makes my hair behave. It's just doing it's own little holiday thing..... /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh well - I guess nothing left to do then is do like LD said and keep it extra moisturized and just wait it out. I decided on Elucence as my relaxer so I have to order and wait for that. So I do have two weeks or so before I'll be about to touch up. I'm also trying to start a new system in 2003 for timing my touchups (the first Saturday of every third month) and so I'll just take good care of it and put it away for a while. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks guys!

Even though the thread is pretty much opvedr I just wanted to add that I find this to be true of my hair as well. This is when I usually try new conditioners. If you can do something with my hair near touch up time, you're a keeper!!!

Yes. My hair becomes a nightmare during that time. I hate washing it because it tangles so easily but that is the only way I can keep my hair in decent form.

Of course once I get a relaxer it returns to normal.
