I wear my hair straight and down a lot, but there's a girl in my building that has relaxed 4aish hair and she wears her hair in all sorts of cute styles. I can't even get my layers to show up without a flat iron!
I checked Black Sophisticate, but the styles a little too heavily styled for my taste and the instructions in the white version of the mag always involve curling irons or flat irons

Anyone found ways to get cute wavy/bumped/layered styles without curling irons? If yes, please share your tips. I'm thinking pin curls and such, but I never know what direction to put them in and all that stuff.

(the 2nd pic my stylist recreated on my hair, but whenever I do it myself it never comes out properly).

I understand what you mean about the magazines. I was flipping though a hair mag and under every style, the instructions called for the use of curling irons and hairspray. To achieve those looks

Rollersetting - it's all about positioning the rollers in a way that will help you achieve your desired look. Some looks require more rollers than others and different sizes.
Steam rollers - when I want to bump my ends under, I use my steam rollers on the ends of my hair for a slight curl

Thanks. I'll try the stream rollers to bump. The rollersets I use to get my hair dry and straight. I don't really use them for styling because once I go to sleep my curls get squashed.

I get deep waves with bantu knots. I only put 2 in my hair. One on each side. I have not downloaded any pictures lately but when I do, I will pm you so you can see my results. :)

Check my fotki. Tons of curls without a curling iron but carusos. Haven't touched those dreadful irons in three years. I don't even own one!

Do you use any products beforehand or less is more? Details, details....:)

I was going to try pin curls before I jumped in the shower, but so far they start to droop after an hour or so.
