Not necessarily growth, but retention. Generally, the longer you stretch, the more you retain... to a certain extent.

If a person isn't good with taking great care of their hair while it's in 2 textures, then stretching could be anti-retentive for them. Yes... I just made up a word

i agree with SmileNy. some stretch and can't control the two textures so they have a setback and not retain anything. but the ones who can would make your statement correct

:yep: I agree with this. I've retained more hair than I ever have in my life. Stretching was the first thing I added to my regimen when I joined LHCF. I stretch from 16-18 weeks at a time. It is very difficult to do when I am 8 weeks+ post, but so worth it! My hair has regained its childhood thickness since I am no longer overlapping every 5-6 weeks like clockwork. I will tell you though, those last 4 weeks I look a straight-up mess . I bun, bun and bun some more at that point!

Totally agree with this!

I don't get more growth with stretching, but I notice way more retention now that I relax every 20 weeks than when I relaxed every 12-14 weeks.

However, I've become a semi-master at stretching with my hair. I know what I need to do and going 20 weeks isn't easy, but absolutely doable with no problems for me. :yep:

I agree with SmileyNY while also adding stretching is not for everyone. Please remember that. The key to stretching is managing 2 textures and for some stretching 10-12 weeks yields more retention then struggling to stretch for 20+ weeks and losing hair due to breakage and not being able to handle both textures.

Stretching is great is gives the scalp and hair a break from the chemical processes (and it takes so dam long) but long term stretching is not for everyone. When I was bone straight, I could only stretch for 10 weeks but now that I'm texlaxed my last stretch was 16 weeks and I only relaxed because I was getting lazy due to fatigue in my first trimester. divachyk relaxes every 10 weeks versus sunnieb who relaxes every 20 and it just goes to show how stretching affects everyone, and both of their heads are thriving :yep:

Stretching is great but the amount of time spent stretching has to work for you and no one else's approval. Growth will always come.

As mentioned by my homie Saludable84, I only stretch to 10 weeks. The cost exceeds the benefit beyond 10 weeks: breakage increases and retention decreases.

I stretched out my relaxer for 11 months..I don't know if I will do that again. The 2 textures were starting to annoy me after the 9th month so I may just get my relaxer twice a year now instead of once. The growth was about the same for me though :)

how come when I relax my hair seems longer and when the perm gets old my hair is shorter

Your hair isn't shorter. It just gives the illusion that it is. I'm Whip length on a fresh relaxer but when Im 16 weeks post I'm BSL pr APL because my NG coils so tight that it becomes puffy & draws my strands up & not down. If that makes sense.
