The only one I've used is the So Long Heat Treat, since its the only heat protectant I can find these days. I've used it to flat iron, and I thought it worked pretty well...it can be sticky if you use too much though.
I use the Heat Treat and what I do is spary a little bit on my fingers, rub them together a bit (I think this causes it to evaporate just a bit) and then apply it down the length of a section of my hair and then I flatiron that section. If I'm using it while blowdrying it's pretty much tthe same thing except I use bigger sections or may detangle my hair with my regular leave-in thin spray the Heat Treat all over and comb through and blowdry in sections. I never noticed stickiness. I've used this way from day one. I'm just about to finish my first bottle.
