Reddish/Brownish Hair Dilemma

Sewing & Growing Gamma Gal
As of October 2009 my roots began growing in with a brownish/reddish hue. My entire head of hair is now this color minus my older ends.

i have put a semi-permanent black dye in my hair and most recently a permanent black die and my hair hair is still this reddish/brown color. I have read via the forum that its probably a porosity issue so i went out ant bought some Roux PC but I am not quite sure how to use it. I've used it both before and after shampoo and dc but still no change. I just recently changed my relaxer from affirm to alter ego linage... so I am hoping that this may change the condition of my hair as it was breaking for some time, which i concluded had something to do with the porosity issue.

i am really looking for some suggestions as to how to deal with this hair situation

TIA!

I have the same problem. My hair turns into shades or red and blond but my hair has always done this even before I got perms and it is resistant to color. The only way I could achieve black hair color was by going to the salon and having a rinse done after my relaxer. I have just done a semi permanent rinse and my ends are already going lighter and I put the color first on my ends. I have just decide I will not fight it anymore and just wear my natural 3 or 4 color hair.

Depending on the light my hair is brownish black or reddish brown. So is my mom's. I tried coloring it and suffered a ton of breakage from damage so now I just wear my natural color. I always have people ask what color rinse or dye I use...I just embrace it because coloring it isn't worth it.

Well I guess I can't really help since mine has been this color since birth lol. I just accept it for what it is. I think some people assume that my hair is dyed but it isn't.

@ mariposa...wow i can really see your color...but i guess anythng is possible, it could very well be my new natural hair color.

there was some breakage at one point...actually quite alot, but i changed relaxers and got a trim, so we'll se what happens

I've always had the reddish/brownish hair that you describe. My hair was always very dry and used to be extremely spongey -translation "porous". The better that I take care of my hair (proper DC, moisturizing/sealing, low heat, low manipulation) the less porous it is, but it's still porous to some extent and I figure that it aways will be.

I believe relaxers can lighten you hair probably by affecting porosity so maybe your relaxer switch will help. Are there any other things you may be doing to exacerbate the porosity of your hair?

@MLL.....to my knowledge I am not.... i wash, dc once a week and use a light protein as well once a week (just started)

my stylist tried to convince me months ago to stop using affirm (she hates it) but i wouldnt listen. so as of this weekend we're going to use the alter ego relaxer and cross our fingers
