Realistic Goals?

Take a look at my photo below.
This is my starting point April 2007.
Do you think the goals I have
are realistic??? I've never been
conscious of how fast my hair
grows... so I don't know.
My hair was always mid back
growing up... but hasn't been that
long since I relaxed at 13 yrs old
and trimming every 8 weeks...
Yes, I believed the hype.

Oh...
here's my regimen for MAY
Baggy method, No Shampoo
No heat, Protective styling,
No professional stylists,
No trims, No relaxers, No Brushes,
Daily Co-Washing (or at least 2X/wk),
MTG, MSM and BIOTIN Multivitamin
(Obviously I'll make exceptions for
special occasions )

I'm really interested in what the APL-BSL ladies have to say.

Umm.... from neck to BSL in a year is quite a jump. Is it possible? Yes, and maybe. The average growth per year is 6 in, and some ladies experience stalls before APL, and again before BSL. If you stick to the regimen that you have outlined, then you should be able to either reach or get VERY close to your goal by April 2008. :D HHG

Here's a chart that may help:

I think you maybe.. I hoped to be bsl by this point when i first started. I think i may see apl by the end of august if i am lucky

I think it is possible to do, especially with the regimen you laid out.

My hair was about your length when I started taking care of it around February 2006. I reached armpit at the end of December 2006. I think my hair grows at an average pace -- 1/2 of an inch monthly even with vitamins and topical treatments. It looks like you have a head start though because your hair looks a lot healthier than mine was when I started -- my hair was very, very dry and prone to splitting so I had to get 3-4 small trims while growing from neck to APL.

Good luck!

If you count in a setback and a possible trim or two- I think you'll probably get an inch or two beyond the Oct. 2007 line by April 2008.

I think it's important to be able to be a little flexible when setting dates for goals...I hope you do make it and I have seen other members on the board experience just that type of growth in the time-frame you have outlined.

make some mid markers as well.....u have a great regimen: i think you can do it. Its not gonna be easy but you know we are all here if you run into any difficulties....and keep us updated: do u have a fotki?

You can do this.
in may 05 had my hair cut exactly how yours is and my hair was APL by Nov 05. but i just now hit brastrap in march because after reaching APL i didn't take any care of my hair at all until sept 06 (when i started really following the info on this board), but with your regimine i think its possible

SL to APL in a year seems realistic. SL to BSL might be pushin' it.

Second pic in the second set seems right. :yep:

I think you can do it. Not to be the party pooper. How long have you been doing your regimen? Do you know that it works?

Baggy method, HAVE YOU TIRED THIS, IT CAN DO ALOT OF DAMAGE IF YOUR HAIR DOESN'T LIKE IT
Protective styling, WHAT TYPE OF PROTECTIVE STYLING?, SOME CAN DO MORE DAMAGE THAN GOOD
No trims, I'VE FOUND THAT TRIMS ARE NECESSARY, IF YOU NEED A TRIM AND DON'T GET IT THE SPLIT END TRAVELS UP THE HAIR SHAFT AND YOU'LL HAVE TO CUT IT ANYWAYS
No relaxers, ARE YOU STRETCHING?, SOMETIMES STRETCHING TO LONG CAN CUASE BREAKAGE

Not to discourage you, everyone know I'm not like that but I would hate for you to do these things and in six months take your hair down and have to cut it all off.

BUT IF YOU HAVE DONE THESE THINGS AND KNOW THAT THEY WORK DISMISS WHAT I'VE SAID.

Oh honey I think your goals are very realistic. Especially the fact that you have a nice ehalthy heat free regimen. You are one step ahead of the game. Plus you have a nice thick foundation. If you keep doing what you are doing I have no doubts you'll do nicely. No doubt. :yep:

How does the baggy method cause damage? If you're baggying while in braids, how can you tell?

When I did the baggy method I had little pieces of hair everywhere. After the month was up I washed and straighten my hair and trim it because the ends looked chewed up. It may have been the baggy method along with the bunning. I don't know but I do know I had to cut my hair. Just want to save the next person the headache.

BAGGY METHOD: Been doing it for a month now... It works well for me...
I do it 7 days a week... no problem... my hair loves it.

PROTECTIVE STYLING:I wear my hair lilke this EVERYDAY!!! I change the bobby pins... I have lots of cute pins and clips...

TRIMS: my ends are NEVER exposed so there's really no need for
me to trim unless I start exposing them or using heat. I know all about
trimming... I've been doing it every 8 weeks since I was 13... I was
addicted to it... but I also used heat and my ends were exposed... not
anymore!

STRETCHING?
Absolutely... I usually go a minimum of 12 weeks or
more without a relaxer ever since I started getting them 11 years ago...
I'm aiming for 16 wks now... I'm 9 weeks post as of today...
but with co-washing and bunning everyday...
I can go longer... my hair is super strong. Its fine but strong. I might even
stretch until October just to see what happens... I live in Miami and the
heat kills my hair... so I think its better to just co-wash daily... wear
protective styles until summer is over. I don't know if any of you have
experienced Miami Heat at the height of summer... its like the sun is
RIGHT THERE... I'd be crazy to relax my hair then... anyway... what would
be the pont in relaxing if I'm just going to wear it in a bun anyway...
I dunno... I think I can just get a blow out in July to check my length and
if absolutely neccessary or if I notice the first sign of anything adverse...
I will get a relaxer or trimmed or whatever.

I think my hair grows faster than the average...
but I guess we just have to wait and see
Oh... I'm doing the HIDE YOUR HAIR
until JULY so that's when I'll straighten it
and show ya'll my progress... LATER!!!

Looks like you have the bases covered. Your second set of goal pics. look more reasonable, but if your hair grows faster than average and you avoid setbacks you can still achieve the first. HHG

If you have no trims or setbacks you should be ok.
But don't be dissapointed if it doesn't happen.
Yes 6 inch is the average but my hair just grows between 3 and 4 inch a year and I'am soooo not talking about what I'am able to retain:ohwell:
