Has anyone seen the real world? Shavonda has the most beautiful curls and when it's straight - it's relaxer straight! How does she do that? She's obviously not going to a salon every other show!
Yes, I've seen the new Real World (Philly) and her hair is lovely. I think her hair is natural and although I don't know for sure how she straightens it, I thought perhaps she used a flat iron?
I think she may be texturized also so maybe that is why her straightened hair looks SO good.
I would guess a flat iron also but I wonder what the process and products she uses. I would love to have silky straight hair that's movable and not weighed down by the grease to make it straight!
Hairlove, have you tried wet setting with the biggest curlers your hair can accomodate and then wrapping? BTW, I love how your all-natural hair looks. Very pretty.
I totally endorse the database thing. I've done it and it's been a wealth of info at my finger tips. Plus, it helps me remember the good advice, lol, even years later.
Maybe you can e-mail Miss Shavonda on the www.mtv.com site HERE
they don't say she is biracial on the site......... I thought he hair was relaxed personally.....I think some relaxed folks can get their hair to curl up....2 good friends of mine have hair that does this and my as well..with mine if its been recently staightened I won't have tight curls just wavy, ringlets types

What would be a clue to her being bi-racial? I guess it doesn't really matter to me bi-racial or not...how does she do that to her hair?? lol

I sooo with you /images/graemlins/wave.gif someone should email her /images/graemlins/poke.gif go 'head girl! ....do it........
she doesnt seem biracial to me. mtv also makes it known when ppl are bi-racial as if it adds some drama to the show or whatever. who knows. non bi-racials have hair like that also. irulan had the same type of hair, arissa was more curly. her curls dont look nice to me either, very thin and scraggly. she might just blow dry it straight or flat-iron.
ill email her if nobody else is bold enough to /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I still don't get what difference it makes if she is bi-racial or not. /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif
Anyways - thanks for the replies! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

LOL! Me either, girl....
FYI - I think she does blow her hair and flatiron it. I think if you blew your hair straight and THEN flatironed, your hair would come out just as straight.
Thanks Tracy. I think that is the method I will try when I straighten my hair. The one time I did blowdry before flatironing, it came out the best. I will have to practice to get it perfect!
It looks like she has two different "curl" styles
When it's actually in the show its basically wavy, but when you see the segments when she is talking sometimes her hair is down and very curly.

She could be relaxed.....when I was relaxed my hair still curled up. It does look like she has had some chemical straightening done to it cuz her curls are kind of limp looking.
Yeah, you can be relaxed and just not relaxed all the way (which is basically what a texturizer is). So, I bet this is the case with her. What's so amazing about that though is how evenly relaxed her hair is. Whoever did it did a great job!
Now, as far as why ppl keep asking if she's bi-racial, I think it's because it's very common for bi-racial ppl to have natural curls like that. If she was natural, she'd be a 2b or something like, which is more typical in bi-racial women relative to women who are "all black" (I sure hope that doesn't sound bad, but that's the only way I could think to say it /images/graemlins/crazy.gif )
There are women on this board who are in no way bi-racial and who have textures that are as "curly" or easily straightened as the girl on TRW. She doesn't have to be bi-racial to have hair that looks good straightened without chemicals. With all of the photo albums at LHCF, you'd think WE of all people would know this! /images/graemlins/confused.gif

I agree. But I suspect that it is a stereotype that will never die. There are also plenty of bi-racial folks like Lenny Kravitz and Gary Dourdan who don't have so-called
"bi-racial hair".
