Reading her book before you use.....?

How many have purchased Cathy Howses' Dew and Conditioner without reading her book? I've ordered them both and want to know if there's anything that I should know about using the conditioner?

Hi Leshia,

Well, I suppose she has to market her book somehow. /images/graemlins/ooo.gif She basically recommends using her conditioner after every wash, after a relaxer and a protein treatment, and talks about what her conditioner can do for your hair. If you haven't read her book, you can still use her conditioner. If you have questions on when and how to use it, let me know. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

i think her book is essential if u wanna follow her regimen to the T. her regimen in the book is basically dont do this and that (u know, heat styling, alcohol gels, brushing, blah blah blah) plus specific instructions on the hows, whens, whats and whys of moisturizing and deep conditioning with HER products!

This is true I just bought her book and the information that is in it is not as extensive as the advice I have been given on this website. Her advice on Iron and Zinc did help me out though. and the advice on 20 deep conditioners. I do have a question though. If you use her conditioner to deep condition and then wet set with dew does anyone know if you can also use a leave in with it and how does the texture come out once dry? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

BronxDiva,
I'm sure it will come out fine. You should be able to use another leave in with no problem. (as long as it's a good leave-in. I'm looking for a good one myself.) /images/graemlins/user.gif

BronxDiva, I do not own her book, what does she say about Iron and Zinc? Tnanks /images/graemlins/look.gif

Well she says........ /images/graemlins/orders.gif

"One of the biggest complaints I get when I tell people about iron needed in their diet for beautiful hair growth is constipating. My answer to that statement is, take your tablets with some type of fruit juice and try eating more fruit to help flush your system. you might also choose chelated iron as it is supposed to be less constipating. One of the keys to hair growth is to make the cell reproduce at a normal rate.

Without iron in your diet, this process is hindered. Doctors have prescribed iron for years to women in childbearing years. Iron creates richer blood and is essential for the production of our red corpuscles because they carry oxygen to the cells. The cells can then live out their normal life expectancy of 120 days. Anemic blood does not carry enough oxygen. Without adequate oxygen, the cells will die prematurely. Remember that your hair gets the last pick of everything, including oxygen.

There is a high concentration of zinc in hair and a deficiency can cause hair loss. Zinc deficiency has been known has been known for many years to cause hair damage in laboratory animals. Foods that normally contain zinc usually become deficient of this mineral when the food is processed. In some cases zinc does not exist at all due to nutrients lacking in the soil. My research revealed the necessity for both these minerals to be adequately supplied in your diet for beautiful hair growth."

She does state that she is not a doctor and will not prescribe how much of a dosage you should take. That information should be confirmed by your doctor.

LMAO that's a new one. She has to make her money somehow. "yes people read my book so i can teach you how to squeeze a product out of a bottle and slather it on my hair" /images/graemlins/huh.gif

Thanks for all the info ladies.

Oh and Pebbles, why do you think she suggests using her conditioner after a protein treatment if her conditioner is not a "moisturizing" one? That is what you said before, right?

Hi, I bought the book, I am using the conditioner and the Dew. I absolutely love the dew! It is not like any product that I've ever used. It makes my hair soft, tangle-free and managable. I love her sytem and I contribute it to the growth and healthiness of my hair today. It's great! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I bought the Dew first.. Then bought the book and the conditioner. She says that to cover herself, from people that was like me, had no knowledge about proper hair care. Did I know that Protein was drying to he hair? NO did I know that you could wash your hair every 3 days? NO for years I was a every two week salon patron.

So the reason she recomends reading the book FIRST is protection for the buyer, if you use the conditioner and do all the BAD things that most uninformed black folk do to thier hair, it's not gonna benefit, but make things worse and what's the first thing black folk gonna do?? Exactly, say the conditioner took your hair out.

I personally think it's wise to give that advice.....
It's not a book selling ploy at all. It was a package that went together.

I'll buy that. I didn't think of it that way. She is probably covering herself too with that disclosure. I have no problems with Cathy. She started me on my hair journey, and I've done well. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
