RAVE: J/A/S/O/N Natural Sea Kelp Conditioner

Now, I know that Black Cardinal has been singing the praise of this conditioner as long as I can remember, but I decided that this year I would do some extensive experimenting with natural products so that I can have a fine-tuned natural product regimen by the end of the year and then, (if I can get the courage) I'll go natural in 2007, and my harmful chemical contact via health and beauty products will be almost completely eliminated.:yep:

Anyway, I decided to start with this conditioner b/c it was $5 and BC has had such wonderful things to say about it. My only reservation was that she's natural and I'm relaxed so I wasn't sure how my hair would respond.

My hair LOVES this conditioner! I can't even begin to describe how wonderful my hair felt. As I was rinsing it, my hair felt so smooth & soft, and there wasn't a tangle in sight. There was all of this slip and moisture, and my mouth was literally hanging open at how my hair felt. This is the first natural conditioner I've come across that I felt could replace my beloved Nexxus Humectress in my regimen. But this stuff is GOOD, inexpensive (that means I can CO was with it too! :yay: , and free of parabens and animal by-products.

Words don't do justice for my hair washing experience last night. I didn't even need as much leave-in b/c my hair was so cooperative and soft.

Just wanted to rave about the latest addition to my arsenal of products!!!

Cool I have this conditioner as well and the jojoba one. J/A/S/O/N makes great stuff. Did you try the shampoo too?

NO! I'm kicking myself for it now. I had only heard about the con so I glanced at the poo, but I didn't take it with me. After last night, I had plans of doing a search on the poo to see what the reviews were like...hmmm, maybe I should PM Black Cardinal.:look:

I used to use this shampoo and conditioner. It's really amazing!
Why did you stop? Did it stop working for you or did you find something better? Inquiring minds want to know...:look:

Black Cardinal spoke so highly of J/A/S/O/N products that I just had to try it. The only one I've used so far is the lavender shampoo and conditioner, and I like them both.

Woo! Sea Kelp! Yeah!

I love the shampoo as well (I con wash much more often than I shampoo which is why I'm always talking about conditioners :yep: ) The sea kelp poo is a very mild, moisturizing, sulfate-free formula. If you aren't used to low-sudsing shampoos it may seem like it isn't going to clean well, but it will. The instructions say to lather twice and I would advise the same if your hair is particularly dirty or you want a deeper clean in preparation for deep conditioning or something. I usually lather up only once, but it's also the case that my hair is pretty clean most of the time anyway.

Ingredients for Shampoo:
Aqua (Purified Water), Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Hydroflorate®*, Calendula Officinalis (Marigold) Extract*, Anthemus Nobilis (Chamomile) Extract*, Aloe Barbadensis Gel (Aloe Vera)*, Laminaria Saccharina (Sea Kep/Algae) Extract, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Hedychium Coronarium (Awapuhi) Extract, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Plumeria Acutifolis (Plumeria) Flower Extract, Aleurites Moluccana (Kukui) Nut Oil, 22 Keratin Amino Acid, Cymbidum Grandiflorum (Orchid) Flower, Glycerin (Vege), Natural Tocopherol (Vit. E), Ascorbic Acid (Vit. C), Retinyl Palmitate (Vit. A), Decyl Glucoside, Oxybenzone, Triticum Vulgare (Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein), Planthenol-3™ (Plant Phospholipids, DL-Panthenol, Ethyl Panthenol, Steardimonium Panthenol), Cyclopentailoxane (and) Dimethicone, Citric Acid, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid, Chlorophyllin, Essential Oil Blend.

Jason really does make great stuff. Including my most recent trial purchase of the Apricot conditioner (which is getting very high marks, btw), I have now tried 9 Jason conditioners. Yes, 9. I may have some sort of problem  My favorite formulas are Sea Kelp and Biotin, but I also have a special place in my heart for the Lavender conditioner for strenthening/elasticity

If you are looking for paraben-free products in particular, know that some Jason products have them and some don't. Make sure you check out the ingredients beforehand. Of the 9 I've tried only one of them had parabens (the Color Sealant con), but I think the "specialty" formulas in general tend to have parabens more often than the "everyday" formulas.

I was waiting for you!

I'm gonna pick up the poo next time I'm in WFM or Vitamin Shoppe. I'm so excited! :yay: :weird:

Thanks for the great review. I am always on the lookout for good conditioners. (PJ :sekret: ) I just need to know where to find this product.

Is this a Sally or other BSS find or do I need to go to Trade Secret?

Try the shampoo too you'll like it. It's not drying at all.

Jason stuff is generally sold in health food stores, or if your regular grocery store has a section devoted to organic/healthy stuff, you may find it there (although the selection will probably be limited). Regular beauty supply stores probably won't have it.
I usually buy it online from www.vitacost.com or somewhere similar (vitacost is the cheapest although they don't have the entire line). The Vitamin Shoppe tends to carry most of their stuff but it isn't as cheap as vitacost. If you want to buy from VS online, buy it through their Amazon Storefront because it's cheaper than ordering it from the VS main site (I have no idea why, but it's true).

Neither, from my experience. I purchase it at WFM b/c I go there ALL the time  but it can also be found (for less) at the Vitamin Shoppe. There's also an online vendor (the cheapest) that carries it. I can't find the link right now...I'll post it after I find it.

Yes...this may be the Therappe replacement I'm looking for!

Well as you can see BC got to it before I did, I think we posted at the same time...her finger is a little faster than mine  so there you have it.

Ok Now I know one of my problems is that the conditioners I by seem to work good when I do not have a lot of new gorwth (for some odd reson) like the first 5 weeks after a relaxer. after that it is all down hill. No conditoner seems to give me enough slip.

So my question is.......How many weeks post relaxer were you when you used it?

Well, I did a 23 week stretch at the end of the year and got a "relaxer" on December 7, but the relaxer didn't take although it was left on for 25+ minutes. I'm not sure why, other the fact that my hair is thick and coarse. So when I pooed my hair the following week and airdried, it looked like a relaxer hadn't been anywhere near my head  So at this point, I look LIGHTLY texlaxed. :ohwell:

So to answer your question, technically, I'm about 5 weeks post relaxer, but if you were to examine my head, you'd think I had been transitioning for 6 or 7 months so this product definitely conquered my old growth and new growth!!

Is WFM Whole Foods Market? Because if it is, I am mad at you, girl! I used to live in Seattle are there are three of them there. And I was in there all the time, too. I moved back to VA and the nearest Whole Foods is 4 hours away. :( Aww, man...

I know that I have seen that J/A/S/O/N label somewhere in my travels. I just couldn't picture where. Thanx.

I knew my hair was still mostly relaxed when I first tried Sea Kelp, but that it was a little while after my last touchup. I couldn't remember exactly when it was, though. So I did a search to find all the threads I've started and I found my very first Sea Kelp testimonial from like 2 years ago *sniffle* My last relaxer was at the end of September 2003, so I was about 4 months post relaxer when I started this thread: Jason's Sea Kelp

Girl, I LIVE in Whole Foods. I can spend hours in that store. They have so much great stuff and I discover something new every time I go in there. We have a whole gang of them in LA, and I love it. Sometimes I go there for lunch b/c their bar is wonderful. Then of course, the health & beauty section is enough to drive a sane woman mad!

That sucks that it's so far away.:ohwell:

you know BC speaks the truth when it comes to her J/A/S/O/N/ conditioners! :lachen: Besides, I have her to thank for getting me hooked to the Rosewater con. :D

Yeh, I realized that a lot of people replying are natural... Does any relaxed ladies use this product....

P.S. Jason and Aubrey Products are on sell at Whole Food Store here in NY... I just went at break to look at pricing... a $6.999 bottle is now 4.99, that is pricing for Jason's but alot of things are on sale...

The OP, Divine Inspiration is relaxed. My hair was relaxed when I first tried it and it has continued to work on my natural hair as well. I'm pretty sure Caramela is relaxed.
Go 'head and get you some sea kelp, 'cause there's only one way to know for sure... :poke:

Thanks for this info. There's one not too far from my job. I saw the J/A/S/O/N line when I picked up some coconut oil last week. The name looked familiar but I didn't want to buy anything without knowing more about the line.

Quick update now that my hair is dry: My hair is beyond soft! It's super smooth, and it feels like satin! I'm in love. I'm gonna purchase the Sea Kelp poo next time in WFM and try them together for my next wash. I'm excited...I'll update this thread once I try the poo & con together.
