Yes! The older guys love me! My friends stay roasting me because I get so many of the older workers at our schoolI noticed that I get compliments from older men (im talking 50+) younger black guys look at me in awe but they get intimidated...
Now do I get taken more seriously? I dont think so...well I am gonna say if a guy is trying to get my number, they don't "hey shorty" me but I get a lot of those when I wear my hair straight. Maybe they do think you're more serious![]()
Thanks girl! Two more finals to go and I'm out of this joint! lolcongrats on finishing first year. it is usually the weed out year for many majors![]()
No offense to you OP but maybe its your age (young 19-24) but at my age (older that 20something) but I dont get the hey shorty. I have read alot of naturals seem to think that they dont attract the young immature type that dont know how to approach a woman. I handle myself like a woman, walk with my head held high but not smelling myself just confident, and most of all I am not loud. I 90% of the time attract the type of male who is respectful to a woman. I draw into me what I want. Now dont get me wrong there are a few that act like they fell and bumped their heads but they starghten up quick once I speak to them.
Hair is important to most but lets face it, it is not the entire package. Oh and I am a relaxed head but on a one year stretch.
Yeah you're probably right about the age thing, you being elderly and me being young would effect how men approach us. And trust I know how to carry myself like a lady, and I know that when you carry yourself with respect you will receive it. But I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about a strictly physical and visual perspective. Before men get to know your personality or even see how well you carry yourself, they SEE you. And they have preconceived notions of your visual appearance. For example if I was scantily clad, men would see me as a "promiscuous girl" and treat me as such. So my point is that I feel that men treat me differently with my natural hair, and seeing as nothing about my appearance or the way I carry myself has changed I'm assuming that it has something to do with the values people attribute to women with natural hair.

Mostly in social situations(not clubs tho) or in our student center.
But what school do you go to that you dont even get eye contact!?? Is it a PWI? Or an HBCU?

Oh okay I know a few people who go to Howard and have natural hair. They said it's fine but natural hair is kinda "in" there so....A large PWI in the DMV area.
I am just going to say, that when I wear my hair straight I get people telling me I look like I am 18. I am 25.
I can definately tell a difference in the way people as a whole react towards me based on how I wear my hair, to the point where it is so extreme that its ridiculous. It does not have anything to do with how I carry myself. I have heard my brothers talk about women's hair (locked and natural women being a little more serious) they seem to assume a women with locks or an afro is more "on point" or has her life more in order
