I am curious to know how many of you beautiful naturalistics are doing for the rest of your life? I have been thinking about it and but I don't know if I could never have another relaxer. I have tried to go natural without the bc and my hair was actually healthier. Are you ladies doing this to improve the health of your hair and then get a relaxer once you reach a desired length and thickness or is this a change for good?:)

hell to da yeah!!! actually I really didn't have to transition. I had a relaxer for two years when I was about 8-10....after seeing it cut out my hair my mother stopped and I went natural...now since I know how to manage my hair I will never relax again. Its also become a part of me...with so many people around me hating on the beauty of natural hair I keep it natural to prove them wrong.

I think so. I can't really see a reason that I would relax again. I never really had relaxers consistently. I would get one here and one there and I didn't like my hair whenever I had one. I've been completely natural for over 5 years now and don't plan on using any chemical products again.

Before going natural my hair had been relaxed for 15 years. I'll never relax again. I love the versatility of my natural hair.

I am transitioning right now and really thinking about texlaxing at the end of the summer, so does that answer your questions LOL The more that I say 'I can't do this' the more I think about me not swimming last year because of my hair and the perm and the chlorine etc. I am a Pisces and love to swim. So for right now, today, this moment I can say yes I when I get 100% natural because I am not BC'ing, I will stay that way....but ask me again tomorrow and I might have a perm in my hand:lachen:

I'd like to think so. I had flat ironed my hair a while back and it came out nice but I thought I looked so much better with natural hair. It has more character. Seeing other naturals jumping ship is giving me the relaxer bug, but I think I will withstand the temptation.

I think so. I can get my hair just as straight as a relaxer if I choose to wear it straight. But I'm not really into straight hair anymore. We'll see what my hair looks like once it gets longer before I decide for sure. But at this point I don't see myself ever going back to the relaxer.

I can say that I will stay natural. I have always permed, dyed, fried and everything else I could do to my hair. My friends and family are shocked I even have hair! I would do crazy stuff like put a curl in it, get bored with that and perm and dye it a couple weeks later.

My hair is so healthy now and the thickest it's ever been. For me going natural was the best thing for my hair.

Cosigning on what some said. I will definitely stay natural forever. I hated my hair when I was younger and natural, but now that I know how to properly care for my hair, I love it. I always had to use a flat iron anyway to straighten my hair when I had a relaxer, I guess b/c of my type 3 hair. My natural hair is so much more versatile and fun. In the back of my mind , it always bothered me that I had to do alter myself in that manner when I relaxed.

Never say never but I think I will be. If I want my hair straight I can flat iron. I just need to learn how to deal with all the frizz and then I will be happy with my hair.

welcome to the forum! :)
great hair!

I know I'm done. I won't knock other ladies who still use relaxers, but I can't imagine going back to relaxers and texturizers again. I've grown to enjoy my natural hair too much to go back to chemicals.

In for good. Out of my whole life, I used chemicals for about a year 1/2, and I won't go back. Natural is easier for me. It was too much drama going to the hair dresser, getting touch ups, and trying to work with 2 textures. No more big or little chops. The only reason I used chemicals (texturizer) in the first place is because I always wore my hair straight, and I didn't know what to do with my natural hair besides that; however, when I started texturizing, I actually stopped wearing my hair straight. I started wearing more wash and wear styles, and my hair began to grow longer than it had ever before (from shoulder to nearly waist before I cut it to transition), so I quickly learned that my hair thrives best when I let it do its own thing instead of fighting it.

I don't ever plan to relax my hair. If I want it straight I just use a flat iron, but I really like it curly. It's easiest to just let my hair do what it wants.:)

Natural for life. There is no question about it. Want to show others that natural hair, (especially the type no one seems to be running down), is actually quite versatile and attractive. Also want to show others that it's not hard to manage.

I am indeed Natural 4 Life. I am frustrated with my texture and still trying to find the right products, but this is the hair I was given and I don't plan to change it anytime soon... No matter how tempted I get.

Your hair is the bomb!

It seems that most of you ladies have decided to never relax again. I think that is wonderful but takes a little more discipline than what I have right now. Maybe in the near future I will consider this. It seems like you ladies are loving it!

ITA. I love being able to wear my hair curly one day and straight the next. I also like that my hair is (or seems) thicker now that it's natural. A few months ago I considered getting a perm, but I'm happy that I didn't. I was just bored with my hair, and now that I'm learning how to do new styles like rollersets and buns, I feel more at ease with being natural. I think I'm natural fo life.

Yes I am natural for life...after three tries i realized my hair HATES to be relaxed...i love my hair now and i won't ever hurt it by breaking it's bonds again:)

I think I'll be natural for life. I stopped relaxing mostly because I really didn't like the whole "touch-up" process--the finding time in my schedule to sit for at least 1.5 hours, the rush to get under the shampoo bowl after the retouch, the feeling dependent on hair stylists in order to feel super good about how my hair looked.

None of that would change if I got a relaxer tomorrow, so I think I'll stay natural.

I also really like my natural hair--it makes me look younger. :)

Haven't had a relaxer in 12 years. Clearly I have no interest in using one ever again. Haven't missed it and my hair is better looking and feeling.

I just checked out your fotki. You may actually be my hair twin. I have the same issues, the back of my hair has a definite curl pattern, the texture is finer, it will actually straighten on its own if I put it in a wet pony tail. My twists fall out easier there. The crown of my hair is brillo paddish too. It will wave up to a certain point but it mostly just frizzes and sits there. I have to worry about breakage in that area as well. It may be more porous also. Your hair color is lighter and your hair is MUCH longer than mine, but otherwise it is very similar.
