Quickie Braidout?

Does anyone have a method to do a super quick braidout? I usually make 16 individual braids the night before, but it takes me forever! I was thinking of doing 4 cornrows tonight instead.

I have done as few as 9 cornrows and it came out looking good. It took about 30 minutes to braid them up and just a few minutes to take them back out in the morning.

I learned from a couple of the ladies here to do just 4 braids for a braidout. I don't know how to cornrow so they are regular braids, and it's quick to do. :)

I'm interested in learning how you do the 4 braids. Cornrows is just a regional term 'round these parts (South). So are you talking about individuals when you say braids? I have to ask because where I live individuals are called plats and what most women call braids are called cornrows here. I'm not correcting you. I just want to make sure that I know what you're talking about.

I make four braids (plats) going towards the back and I pin them up before going to bed. I make my braids on hair already dried rather than on wet hair. After only an hour, I can get nice, soft waves - tighter waves if overnight.

When I first posted this pic in my album in 2004, some of the ladies said it looks like a pretty style so now I wear this as an updo and take it down if I want a braidout.:)

Nice. I like the silk flower pin with it. Looks like a complicated style, but it's not. Elegant.

I do 4 cornrows straight back. Part hair down the middle, make 2 equal sized cornrows on each side of the head...voila! I roll the ends on little rods...it makes my hair look shorter than what it is, but it ties the curly look together nicely.

Do you make your cornrows on wet or dry hair? I ask because for me, doing it after my hair has dried makes the waves/curls looser to show more length.
