Are you supposed to wash your hair before using henna/indigo? I am about to use the Caca Noir Indigo/Henna on my mom's hair and I wanted to know! Please help!

My Directions say, Apply to Clean Damp Hair. So I ALWAYS Co-Wash my Hair with something Super Moisturizing before I apply my Henna/Indigo.
Then I rinse it out a really long time with Plain Clear Water. And then a Really Long time with either V05 or Suave.
