When relaxing your hair to you just relax the new growth or your whole head of hair. My mama relaxes my hair for me and she puts on all my hair. (yes my mama still does my hair) But anyways Is this okay?

thanx!

I say stop letting your mother do your hair...I cant begin to imagine how overprocessed it is.

:eek:no no no!!
Never ever relax hair thats been previously relaxed. only touchup the new growth. Relaxing whole head will cause serious damage and breakage.

Its best to relax the new growth only, relaxing from root to ends will weaken your hair & eventually it will start to break due to overprocessing.

Thats what I thought. She says bc my hair is thick that i need to relax all or my hair, other wise its straight but it's really big. Do you ladies press or flat iron the rest of your hair to make it lay down then?

thanx!

Co-signing on what Sylver 2 and Sweet Ambrosia said. I was the flat iron queen before joining LHCF--now I roller set and wrapp my hair afterwards.

I have to agree with everyone else about only touching up the new growth.

I roller set and then flat iron. I only leave the flat iron on my new growth for 3 seconds and just swipe the rest of my hair. One day I'm going learn how to do a tight and proper roller set.

Only touch up new growth and never press relaxed hair to avoid damaging previously processed hair

Either spend some money on a good stylist from now on (no offense to your mom) or follow SouthernGirl's tips for relaxing hair.

 Good luck!

Wrapping the hair (i.e., using the head as one big roller) is an effective way to make your hair lay down flatter without using heat (press/flat iron). If your Mom has been pulling your relaxer through your hair for each touch up, your hair is probably overprocessed and using heat will only make the damage worse. HTH!

There is no second chance for hair that's already been relaxed. Putting relaxer on previously relaxed hair will break it off, perhaps making it a little straighter, but certainly a lot more damaged.

Pressing relaxed hair is a big no for many people.

I rollerset my hair and then flat iron just like Simcha. Leaving the flat iron on the total length of the hair for under 10 seconds.
