SO excited I can ask these kinds of questions now since i am natural! woo!!!

ok ok, but to the point.

Do you prefer (or are you trying to get/keep) your natural hair all even/grow out layers or in a layered cut. Long layers or short if you have/prefer them? I am just trying to figure out how to progress from here.

If you color, do you get it done at a salon, or do it yourself from a box kit? Details/opinions?

Thanks in advance!

i let my hair grow in layers. i may do a blunt cut when i get to mbl but for now i actually like my layers. i've had a number of people ask me how i cut my natural hair in a layered bob when my hair was shorter and i wore 2 strand twists all the time. i say enjoy the layers 'till you get sick of 'em :yep:

This is a very hard question lol. I am still trying to figure out which one I like best for myself.

IMO I think straightened hair looks the best, full thick and with a blunt cut, however as I proceed to style my hair mostly in wash n go's I love the way it looks with layers.

As of right now I am trying to grow out the crazy layers I did myself because at the end of the year I am really looking forward to a nice blunt straightened do.

answers in green! :) Eventually, my goals is to have long layers. (BSL - WL) or I may do a U-shape.

I have layers, SL to APL. They were cut about 10 years ago, and they've remained bc my hair grows faster in the back than on the top.

If you're going to wear your hair straight, it shouldn't matter, but I prefer long layers with my natural hair (styling looks better & more options w/o using bobby pins :))

I have never been to the salon for color. I used to use red rinses on my hair. I have used permanent color but there was damage, so I wouldn't recommend doing this at home! (different thicknesses between strands, and some breakage).

Thanks in advance!

I've always colored my own hair, but bought better gloves that come in the box. Actually, the Miss Clairol boxes have much better gloves than the Dark & Lovely. Now with the length of my locs, I'm up to 5 boxes to color root to tip. I only use permanent color once a year, then the rest of the time for my touch ups I use a rinse.

Welcome to the natural side!

I am deciding whether or not to get some shorter layers cut into my hair... right now I feel like my hair needs some shape...but I'm not sure.

For color, I go to the salon.

Layers, layers layers all the time!

I prefer to have layers because i looooove how they look when flat iron the hair.

i want layers but i am afraid of going to a salon and having them jack up my hair. i am looking at some recommended on naturallycurly.com and i found 2 that have good reviews on color and cuts. One even has a woman who specializes in natural hair care. i just worked so hard; don't wanna risk damage. but i know i can't cut good layers on my own that will look nice curly. and i won't risk color damaging my own hair. one is an aveda salon and i know they are popular for coloring..

My hair naturally grows in layers but eventually when my hair grows to bsl, I am going to cut my hair to apl which would make me blunt apl and proceed to grow to full bsl. I can't help you w/ the coloring b/c I don't dye my hair.

My ideal is for all the strands to be the same length from base to ends. That means if I were to comb an afro, I form a perfect microphone-looking round whose edge is the same height from my scalp all round. Having my hair the same length all over gives me more styling options. If I pressed it and then combed it down and tried to cut it all even so the hair falls to the same level, I would not be able to do a great updo coz the back would be too short and the day I wanted to do an afro, it'd look a bit silly. And I couldn't wear a puff anywhere but lower back if I wanted to include all my hair.

My hair is cut in layers, so I would say that it is growing out in a layered cut

Long layers or short if you have/prefer them?

Right now, my hair is in shorter layers but eventually, I would like to have long layers cut...I will probably always have a layered head :spinning:

I get my color done at a salon that specializes in natural hair...As you can see in my siggy, I have about 3 or 4 different colors, and I wouldn't trust myself to be able to do that. Also, some of my parts are bleached, so I leave coloring of that magnitude to the experts!

Thanks in advance!

Hope this helps!!!

That's a good question. I usually don't cut my hair at all when its growing and im not going to anytime soon BUT when i reach my desired length, i have yet to decide if im going to cut it into layers or let it all stay even. Hope that helped

I stopped straightening my hair about 6 years ago so I'm not really worried about layers. I do use curlformers a few times a month, but layers aren't as obvious with big loose curls. When my hair is longer, I might straighten it again, so in that case I'd like the front length to be fairly close to the back.

Hoya Saxa! :yep:

My hair grows in layers as well. I'm a straighten natural. I think I get more volume with curls, which makes my fine hair look full. When it was close to one length, it would fall into the wrap look.

I think my hair is going to natural grow in layers. However Im not going to cut it to even it out until it gets real long. Plus I dont use heat or straighten my hair so layers are ok for me. As for color I use henna and indigo to make my hair darker.

I let my hair grow in layers. I don't straighten my hair, so its not a big deal. At some point I may have it evened up some for shape, but I think that's it.

My hair is in layers too. Done by yours truly. Which means they are not the best. But it works, for someone who doesn't do much to my hair. Puffs and twists, and the occasional blowout.

As far as dye goes, I usually use 2 bottles of Texture and Tones.
