Where do you measure your waist???

it seems to me that people are measuring in different parts...

some times, it sounds like too little inches, or a lot of inches. I'm a little confused. I've looked at some ppl's pages and to me, they look a few inches from waist, and they list the amount of inches to their "waist" and it's a WHOLE lot...

do u get my point? lol

is it at the curve of the stomach?
or at the top of the pants? maybe like 1" or so below the bellybutton?

I used to think waistlength meant my hair covering my whole back so when i wear pants, all you see is hair, then jeans :look: but now it seems that that might mean "tailbone"

anyone care to answer?

I see a lot of discrepancy as well. I get confused. I wanna say waistlength is the curve of your stomach (waistline). But for me I have a short torso so it looks like midback and waistlength are the same for me. :look: So I dunno.

I agree with the confusion. It's the worse w/ brastrap, as there are many styles of bras, and many people wear the bras wrong. I've seen alot of girls with brastraps snug up under the armpit, and some with brastraps almost down by the waist.

As for your ?, I think the waist sits where you naturally bend. If you placed hands on hips and bent forward, the waist sould be at the crease. For many of us it's like where the navel is.

Think of jeans--some sit at the natural waist, most nowadays are low rise (below the natural waist). So if you're wearing low rise jeans, you might see a little of your back when you're at waistlength, but not much.

Yeah but everything vaireis frm person to person. I alwyas thougth of waist as were my elbows hit my side. As far as bra strap  Ive seen some armpit/brastrap ladies floating around but hey it actually is thier bra so I dont know what to say.... I guess if you tighten your bras straps over your shoulder then the clasp will be pretty high. Ive even seen some ladie where the fornt of the bra is down and the back is jacked up... Adjust the strap ladies, its not supposed to be liek that :lol But shoot we can all see where it really is. Pictures tell alot. Besides you make the final call on judgement of hair length.

For me, I measure midback (or what I loving refer to it as . . . backfat length:lol: )where my back starts to narrow under the ribcage (the narrowest part).

Waistlength is for me is further down-- around my hips near the top of the pelvic bone.:D

But according to websters dictionary:

waistline
One entry found for waistline.

Main Entry: waist·line
Pronunciation: 'wAst-"lIn
Function: noun
1 a : an arbitrary line encircling the narrowest part of the waist(the narrowed part of the body between the thorax and hips) b : the part of a garment that covers the waistline or may be above or below it as fashion dictates

According to Webster, waistlength is above the hips and below the ribs--what I have been calling midback:ohwell:  I guess what the second part of the Webster definition is saying is that it varies from person to person depending on where you choose to fashinably wear your jeans or skirts. Your own clothing choices tend to dictate what waistlength is for you. Fashion these days is all about the lower rise. High waisted skirts and jeans aren't cute (well to me:lol:) So I guess if you wear high waisted clothes- your waistlength would be higher than someone who wears their clothes a little lower on the torso. My mom is an example of someone with a high waist because of her clothing choices:lol:

I guess I said all that just to say... it depends.

When you measure the waist to have clothing made it is the smallest natural indentation below your ribcage, usually it will coinside with your belly button. Look up how to measure for clothing to be exact.

I found this on a clothing website.

Instructions
If you don't know your waist and hip sizes, just use a measuring tape to get these two numbers (stand relaxed -- no sucking in your belly!).

• For your waist, measure around the narrowest part of your waist (or if that isn't easy to find, measure at your belly button).
• For your hip size, measure around the widest part of your hips.

I think you know it when you see it. If you have to contort your neck and hunch your shoulders, you're not bra-strap/waist-length. Come on now.

I've noticed that too; it's true that some women just don't know how to choose bras that fit them properly. Remember though, whether your bra is high or low I still support all of you on your hair care journeys.

ETA: I completely forgot to answer the question! For me waist length is the smallest part of the waist, right where it curves in. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)
