Hi ladies....

I'm getting my hair put up in a bun (going to buy a phony bun this weekend) for a wedding and another big event I have at my church next week. I'm wondering how safe would it be for me to have my hair up for 2 weeks in this style ( I go to the stylist every 2 weeks) without being able to oil my hair( I oil my scalp with Doo Gro 3 times a week) AND if so how do I ask my stylist to baggie my hair. :perplexed I know its a lot but I'm a newbie and the tips are welcomed! :)

I love wearing my hair in a bun. I've never worn a phony bun though. The longest I've worn my hair in a bun is about a week (out of laziness  ). I just made sure my hair was moisturized really good (especially my ends). I don't oil my scalp, so I didn't have to worry about that. I did the baggy method years ago, but I only wore the baggy at night when I went to sleep. If your stylist doesn't know about the baggy method, she will probably give you a very strange look. I guess you should just come out and ask her and tell her exactly why you do the baggy method. HTH. :)

If you hair is clean and moisturized when you put the pony in, then you probably can go 2 weeks. Only thing is, I wouldn't make it a habit because I personally cannot regularly go 2 weeks without washing my hair, but I know many others with awesome hair who do. I do go 2 weeks very very rarely, when i travel, get too busy or just plain 'ole lazy, but my hair ITCHES after a week and I just gotta wash!

The only time I oil my scalp is before washing when I massage scalp and hair really good, then shampoo (sometimes wash it out immediately, sometimes I leave in a few mininutes up to hours or even overnight for extra condition, but I only oil my scalp in anticipation that I'm gonna be washing it in the next day or so). I do not oil my scalp in between washes 'cause I wash once a week so my scalp stays pretty clean from wash to wash. I rather focus oils on my ends every couple of days to prevent breakage and retain length. I found that so long I wash once a week, my hair grows just fine, it's the ENDS of my hair that requires regular oiling, not my scalp. My ends break if I don't oil them and that's why my hair APPEAR not to grow -- it wasn't because there was a problem with my scalp but rather a problem with my ends. See, my hair grows just fine whether I oil my scalp or not -- as evidenced by all that new growth a few weeks after touchup!

When I first joined LHCF, it took a while for me to understand the importance of focusing and pampering my ENDS rather than on my scalp. Now if you have scalp issues, then you probably need to focus on your scalp, but I don't, my scalp is healthy as a horse and always have been, MY problem was breaking ends. Once I started paying attention to my ends, I've manage to retain my lenght and hit brastrap last fall for the first time in my life.

Kinda long answer, but hope this helps.

Regards,
Neroli (4b, relaxed & hennaed!)

Thank you ladies sooooooooooooo much!! I'm going to tell my stylist about the baggie method as well as moisturize my hair which she does on a regular.
