Question-Naturals that press with marcels

I would like to know if any of you ladies use a heat tester or the paper towel method? Which is better for you?

I just purchase my equipment so that I can start pressing my own hair after horrible experiences at the salons, but did not purchase the heat tester or mouth control stove.

Any suggestions!

I remember when I first went natural, I bought a marcel iron and stove and I was so uneducated about them. I tried to use it, but didn't realize the handles were so difficult to use. Please do a heat tester because it is REALLY hot to wear you can actually burn your hair off (I speak from experience).

I want to know, is marcel the ONLY way you'd like to straighten? I know some really good flat irons that work really well with natural hair. I use Tool Science, read the reviews:

I actually have the non-digital version that's below this one, but I've seen this one do great work too. I then do a silk wrap with saran wrap.

I'm just suggesting this because I still have my marcel and oven and wish I could get rid of it, its not really necessary and if you don't really know too well how to use them, I'd suggest another route to pressing. Good luck, dear.

I love the results from the marcels. It has body, bounce, and will last for a month. I dont get the same results from a chi. I went to a different stylist who buirned my hair out with a chi, and it didn't last at that. I got the hand manipulation down, and I will be use the feather flat. Just want to hear ladies opinions.

By the way Nichi your hair looks nice! A have a friend who swears by your method and doesn't like my method. I know everyones hair responds differently.

I don't use marcels. But you can buy a stove with a temperature control.
